  • Cannot burn dvd with any program or any burner
  • Question by heathyrdickson, Sunday 24th of August 2008 00:38
I have two dvd burners, an internal and external. For almost a year they have worked perfectly to burn both data and video dvds. I've been using DVD Shrink and Nero 8 Ultra. About three weeks ago, I burned a couple of dvds, left the house for a couple of hours, then when I came back, I attempted to burn another dvd on my external burner and the burn failed. When I use the external burner, Nero reports that there has been a power calibration error, when I use my internal burner, it reports that there has been a write error. It has no problems with cds, it will burn both audio and data cds, but not dvds. I have called customer support at HP (my computer manufacturer), they had been restore to an earlier date, that did not work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled two different versions of Nero (7 and 8) 4 times. I have tried other burning software, to many to remember, the last one was Imgburn. The hardware appears to be fine, it will still read dvds and DVD Shrink still works, I can use them to rip to my computer, but no matter what I try, neither drive will write with any program. Please help, this problem is driving me out of my mind. Thanks

  • Won't erase DVD+RW!
  • Question by de1946, Friday 22nd of August 2008 16:57
My Lite-On LH-20A1P will not erase my DVD+RW's. I have gone into folder properties and unchecked read-only and get the following error:

"Cannot delete video_TS: file on this dvd drive are read only. You cannot copy or move files to this dvd drive."

No matter how many times I try to uncheck read only I get the same result. Frown

How do i erase the RW so that I can record something else on it?

    I'm using windows xp.

    Can some one help me?

    Dick
    Answer by labo_2000, Friday 22nd of August 2008 18:34
i think that your DVD+Rw are set to DVD-ROM booktype the last time you burned them
so i guess you to eerase them with another bruner if possible and set booktype for your liteon to DVD+RW when writing to such discs
    good luck
    Answer by de1946, Friday 22nd of August 2008 19:31
i think that your DVD+Rw are set to DVD-ROM booktype the last time you burned them

    I don't understand this point!

The problem is that i can't erase them. The system won't allow it.

    How do you set booktype??
    Thanks!
Answer by Arachne, Friday 22nd of August 2008 19:35
What program are you using to erase your RW disc? Try ImgBurn, it's free.

You can't just right-click a file on a DVD+RW in Windows XP Eplorer and delete it, if that's what you're doing Smilie
    Answer by labo_2000, Friday 22nd of August 2008 19:39
    ok
with this kind of burner, you can set the type of a DVD+RW to DVD-ROM in order to let some old DVD reader recognise it easily.
the media is still a DVD+RW, but the reader detects it as a DVD-ROM
This option is not allowed for DVD-RW ; only for DVD+R and DVD+RWand DVDDL+
so you can change this by using the utility :
    http://club.cdfreaks.com/f44/settings-utility-liteon-drives-v1-1-0-new-241940/

but first you must erase the DVDby an other burner if possible
Answer by superhero, Friday 22nd of August 2008 21:51
Setting Booktype and erasing a RW disc are completely different things.

Listen to Arachne. Most burning programs like Nero, Sonic & Roxio also have an erase function.
Answer by _chef_, Sunday 24th of August 2008 21:20
But Nero would be a bad choice here.

    Use Imgburn!

  • I have a burning failed error.
  • Question by techno512, Friday 1st of August 2008 20:29
Hi! I'm new at this, so I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum or anything like that.

I have a Lite-On LH-20A1P burner and I use Nero software. I am not able to burn a disc. Nero starts burning, then stops partway through and says there is a power calibration error, and then burn process failed at 4x (5,540 KB/s).

    Welcome to CD Freaks. Smilie

It seems that DMA is off for your A1P, but is on for all other drives. I suggest checking it.
Click here to learn how to check and solve DMA issues (Credits to Womble)

Also, CMC MAG AF1 is a somewhat old 4x DVD model. I'd suggest getting 8x or 16x media for this newer drive, although I've had good results with CMC MAG AF1 on my A1P. Smilie

    Also.

    SENSE KEY=MEDIUM ERROR

Also means that your drive does not like something about your media that you are using.

Could it be the type of disc I am using? I recently tried DVD-R, but I'll try CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD-RW.
Answer by Arachne, Sunday 3rd of August 2008 20:55
You need to get DMA enabled for your LiteOn drive before anything else, as per Albert's post Wink

  • Won't read burned dvds
  • Question by ausguy42, Tuesday 29th of July 2008 02:34
Hi, I have 2 Liteon burnders on my pc. I use 1Clickdvdpro. It has always burned a great copy. Very recently I noticed that with most burned dvds 1Clickdvdpro is the only software that can read burned copies. My pc also has shrink dvd and Windvd. Neither of these can read the copied dvds. I like to reauthor dvds (music) and I'm at a loss to understand what's going on. Yet, the copied dvds seem to play okay in my stand alone dvd player. Can anybody help sothat shrinkdvd can again read these burned dvds? Thanks.
