    Welcome to the forum Smilie

This may sound like a stupid question, but do you have the latest LightScribe System Software installed from www.lightscribe.com?

On the same site you'll find a Diagnostic Utility, it may be worthwhile downloading and running that as well.

  • HP840e external to internal
  • Question by hootie318, Wednesday 30th of July 2008 20:35
The power connection on my 840e has gone out. I have removed the 840e from it's case and installed it internally.

The PC recognizes the drive, however the drive does not respond.
I tried to install firmware for the 840i, 840b, etc. It tells me that I have the wrong drive.

Is there anyway to make this external drive function internally?
Answer by Arachne, Wednesday 30th of July 2008 21:19
Can you explain a bit by "does not respond"?

Do any lights on the front of the drive light up, and can you eject the tray?

If not, then check the power cable is plugged snugly into the drive.

Also, make sure you have it jumpered correctly for internal use/it's position on the IDE cable.

Small things, but often overlooked Smilie
Answer by mciahel, Wednesday 30th of July 2008 21:37
    Hi,

have you set the jumpers properly? Also make sure, the cables are installed properly and are not damaged.
Secondly, check device manager, if there are any errors displayed.

In order to sort out Windows issues, try if you can boot off a bootable CD or DVD.

    Michael

EDIT: I was beaten again Wink
Answer by Albert, Wednesday 30th of July 2008 22:29
Just to add a bit of info: This drive should work with 840e firmware just fine when internal. It did for me. Agree
    Answer by hootie318, Thursday 31st of July 2008 00:06
THe drive powers on. Windows XP recognizes it with the correct model number. It doesnt respond to any media. I inserted all kinds of cds and dvds and software discs, but nothing.
    Answer by hootie318, Wednesday 6th of August 2008 19:38
    Flash results:

LG H20L: Version 1 & 2 shows in device hardware, does not respond or eject.

LG 4166b: Shows in device hardware, ejects, does not respond to any media.

HP 840b: Shows in device hardware, ejects, does not respond to any media.

HP 840e: Shows in device hardware, ejects, does not respond to any media.

Is there anything I might be missing in the BIOS, etc.?????
Answer by Albert, Wednesday 6th of August 2008 19:44
It could be that, when the power supply went, it took the actual drive with it. When I took my 840e out of the case and installed it in my computer, it worked perfectly fine [as it should have]. Changing firmwares won't help.

You can try to open the drive and clean the lens with a Q-tip and some rubbing alcohol, which may or may not work.

Flashing the drive to anything other than a 4164/4166-based drive firmware wouldn't work, BTW, which is why you couldn't even eject it as an H20 drive.

Also, please avoid crossposting, k? It confuses people, and is against the rules. It's best to stay within your own thread. Wink

My bad, There was someone in there asking if anyone else had the no eject problem.

Regarding the 840e issue. The drive had some function when I was using Vista. However XP has no response. I was thinking maybe there was a different driver or something that Vista found or something in the BIOS.

And you're sure that the drive is jumpered properly?

Is the drive running in DMA mode in both Vista and XP?

Is it possible your IDE cable is bad?

You never said for certain whether or not the drive failed to boot from a bootable disc...could you check?

  • How do I copy then burn CD cover onto backup CD?
  • Question by gmdewulf, Monday 21st of July 2008 19:03
Hello from St. Louis, the home of the St. Louis Cardinals.

I'm retired but have worked with PCs since the dark ages (starting in 1979).

But, I need your help to solve a problem. Here's what I want to do:

    1. I want to place my original music CD into my lightScribe capable CD/DVD drive (it's an HP 840d);

    2. I want to have the drive read the graphic cover design on the original CD; and

    3. I want to burn the cover desing from the original CD onto my back-up lightScribe CD-R.

I thought I used to be able to do this: i.e. burn and copy the music side of the CDs and then flip them over and then copy the cover desing from one to the other.

How can I do so again?

    Thanks.

BTW, I've got Easy Media Creator 10 suite installed on a fairly robust Vista PC.

    Thanks.
Answer by CDuncle, Monday 21st of July 2008 21:49
Your CD/DVD burner is not a scanner. You cannot do what you want.
Only way would be to place your CD in a scanner and scan the picture, than import that to Light scribe supporting software and burn.

  • DVD playback starts at different chapters
  • Question by alseven7, Thursday 26th of June 2008 15:19
I have been using ANY DVD and shrink for a while now on

3 different computers, with no problems, until about a month ago.

My DVD backups start at different chapters and I can't go to the beginning.

Obviously, when trying them in any of my 5

computers, windows media sees them perfectly...

All 3 computers give me the same results. What happened?

Could you post more info? The titles of the movies, the blank media you are using and the program you are using to burn with will be a big help. Also what region are these movies?
    Answer by alseven7, Thursday 26th of June 2008 15:40
Tks but the all the titles have been doing it more & more. I have been Memorex for years and never had any problems. The region is 1...
I can watch them in any computer with media player but stand alone players,,, [I have 4 different ones] all skip the chapters and start somewhere in the middle and I can't start from the beginning. ?

you are using bad blank media. Use only taiyo yudens or verbatim's but for now try burning at half the rated speed of the blank discs you have. I just tried to back up my copy of The Last Hour using anydvd and clonedvd2 and I did full disc but it was just main movie. Now I know why I prefer a different program than anydvd. Also use anydvd ripper to rip to harddisk and then open the file using dvdshrink this should workEDIT: But it might not work only way is to try it
Answer by GJ, Thursday 26th of June 2008 16:24
forgot to mention if you not have the latest anydvd then you need to upgrade the latest released version is 6.4.5.0 or the beta v6.4.5.2
    Answer by alseven7, Thursday 26th of June 2008 16:39
    Tks again.
I have 6.4.5.1 already & right clicked to rip to hard disk also, same results. Should I try to go with DVDFAB platinum or is there something else out there that does the job?/ Need to back to the way it used to be without having lots of copies that only work in computers...

I use dvdfab and have no problems with it but I not understand why anydvd and dvdshrink not work for you because they usually work together. By the way what are the movies you having the problems with.

that the movie I have paused right now. backed it up with dvdfab and so far no problems. I can try it and see if it will work for me using anydvd and dvdshrink
    Answer by Kerry56, Thursday 26th of June 2008 17:00
Are you trying to make backups of the complete movie or just the main title?

Rip to the hard drive using AnyDVD and the built in ripper. Run this movie through FixVts. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/FixVTS

    Then try compressing with DVDShrink.
    Answer by alseven7, Thursday 26th of June 2008 17:02
Tks but it's not he movie because i get the same results with,
10000 BC, Jumper, The Eye, National Treasure 2 .... and so on...
Answer by Arachne, Thursday 26th of June 2008 17:28
You may want to give different discs a shot...

The thing is with Memorex, they can be made by one manufacturer one month (and may work fine), but made by a different manufacturer the next month (and could be pot-luck quality-wise).

From what I see here, you haven't tried new media, so it may be worth a shot grabbing a small 10 pack of Verbatim or Sony or something.
Answer by GJ, Thursday 26th of June 2008 19:09
Well alseven7 I just watched the back up I made using anydvd V6.4.5.0 and dvdshrink and had no problem with it. I use Taiyo yuden blank dvd's so buy yourself a small pack of verbatim's like Arachne said because I do believe it is the memorex as they are very unreliable as I have used them and had problems also.
    Answer by alseven7, Friday 27th of June 2008 16:05
    Thank you very much.
Will get some verbatim and keep you posted
    Answer by alseven7, Friday 27th of June 2008 16:27

It's not true by my experience. I've burned 100's of Verbatim discs without a problem.

You have to realise that a lot of those people may not have the latest firmware etc on their drives, or may simply be using old drives.

    I still would recommend Verbatim 16x +R 100%. Agree

Also they may be burning at max speed on said burners. For movies etc I always use 8x.
