Problems & Support for this product

You can find all the questions that have been asked about the LG GSA-H10A below.
  • Problem: computer seeing IDE dvd burner as SCSI, won't read?
  • Question by jgtr80, Thursday 10th of July 2008 00:39
    Hi,
Hopefully someone can figure out whats wrong.

I have one cd/dvd burner, LG (gsa-h10a i think). However, first off, under the cd/dvd drives tab-thing in Device Manager, it shows 3 drives:

    BA0222K QMN219A SCSI CdRom Device
    GI1554D SMO099Q SCSI CdRom Device
    HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H10A ATA Device

I have no idea what the first two are, i don't even have a SCSI device. The third i'm guessing is my LG. They all 3 have the little yellow exclamation error triangle thingy.

The main problem is, although it appears that the computer is detecting the drive (although with an error), It won't read anything, and I can't see the drive, explore it or anything. When i pop a disc in, it spins up slowly and the light blinks for 3 seconds, and then just leaves it with a casual slow spin idk wtf its doing.

The drive (and the entire computer) is only a year old, w/ Vista, mobo, 8800GTX, and equivalent hardware worthy of pwning n00bs. The drive was working fine until a few weeks ago.

I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drive, and nothing seems to work.

If anyone has any ideas as to how I can get it working again, or if its toast and I should just get another drive, your help would be much appreciated!

    Thanks!

This would be my plan of action.

Check all cords and plug ins
Plug any optical drives into IDE0, and any HDD's into IDE1 port.
Make sure you have an 80pin IDE, and not a 40 Smilie
Go into the BIOS and disable any RAID options
download and re-install chipset drivers for your motherboard

These are virtual drives installed by software like Alcohol, Daemon Tools or similar.

  • Question by derke92, Friday 27th of June 2008 15:48
    Hi All,

I'm the newbie and I need help please.
I live in England in a small village in Warwickshire, at the end of the telephone lines so the broadband is slow (does my head in) but as I have retired I have quite a bit of time on my hands.
I recently bought a Compaq Evo D510 SFF form ebay running 2Ghz CPU with 640 Mb memory and the OS is windows XP Pro. It came with CD rom and I bought an LG GSA-H10A DVD super multi DVD drive from ebay and it will not work for me.
I have tried the jumper in all positions, tried unplugging the HDD in case the power pack was not powerful enough. But nothing I have tried will work.

Can you tell me if this drive will work in the compaq. If you say yes then the drive is fried, or damaged in transit, and I will have to retun it to tha seller.

If anyone can help me I will be very grateful for any information you can give me. HP have told me that I can only run the Compaq/HP drives in the Evo but I think they are telling me stories.

    Regards,

Hello Derek, and welcome from a fellow English member Flower

Do any lights come on (on the drive), and can you eject the tray?

Does the BIOS recognise the LG on boot-up?

Can you revert the jumper settings back to what they were when you got the machine, and we can go from there (Master is connected to the end of the ribbon cable, Slave if connected to the middle...or the machine may use CS as default).
    Answer by gamma1, Friday 27th of June 2008 19:06
......And also make sure that the power and ribbon cable are snugly plugged in....but if you get no lights and no tray eject it's possible you received a fried drive...BTW, I have an HP desktop computer and it has run HP, Asus, BenQ, LiteOn and NEC drives with no problems. Your OEM CD drive is probably manufactured by someone other than HP....
