  • GSA H50L can't read data dvd's
  • Question by 24fps, Sunday 21st of September 2008 15:19
    Hi all,

Suddenly my drive can't read data dvd's that I made either with this drive or with my previous one.

It's fine when it come to CD's and original movie dvd's but data ones are a no go, it iwll just spin and spin. Sometimes I will hear it (i've externalize the drive) start to access and stop, access and stop but that's it.

Since about a month ago it wouldn't burn at 16x Nero would only burn it at 4x.

Oh I stand corrected, I just put in a data disc in the drive about 2 minutes ago and now it just started to read it....

Aside from that so far I've tried to remove the primary and secondary channel and reboot but it is still the same thing.

I put a new firmware in and it is also the same thing.

    Any suggestions,

    Thanks

    Phil

    Welcome to the forum Smilie

Have you tried better DL media, such as Verbatim? Ritek for DL can be hit or miss.

Thank you I don't have Verbatim but I did have a unopened pactage of TDK and that worked.

Wierd I went through 60 Mermorex DL without a problem and last 7 have been coasters. Must be hitting a bad batch.

    Thank you again

Memorex can be variable, in that some discs in the pack maybe better quality than others.

Glad the TDK worked for you Clap

  • GSA-H50L reads DVD-R on one PC not another?
  • Question by amgc36, Monday 23rd of June 2008 04:47
    Hi there!

I have burned some DVD-R previously using a Sony burner (forgot the model). When I try to read them with this GSA-H50L (firmware 1.01), the DVD-R cannot be read. However, when I move the exact same drive over to my older PC, it reads without problems.

The only thing I can think of is that, the drive is attached as a primary slave (with hard drive as master), and when it's attached to the older PC it's attached as secondary slave without anything in master.

Any ideas what the problem is? Thanks!
