    Hi alibot and welcome:

    1. DMA is off. The link will direct you to turn it on.

    http://club.cdfreaks.com/f61/troubleshooting-enabling-checking-dma-windows-vista-xp-2000-me-9x-101616/

    2. Use better media. Verbatim (available locally) or TY is preferred.

    3. It appears you are using RW discs and these may cause more problems. Can you use +R or - R?

    4. You are in multisession (and not finalising disc which makes sense if you are in multisession) which can also cause headaches. Your best success will be to use a straight R (+ or -), turn off multisession and finalise disc.

Members would also like to know what you are trying to do (make audio CDs, backup data, etc.) as they may have additional suggestions.
Answer by alibot, Tuesday 14th of October 2008 14:32
Hello Jeff and thanks for the warm welcome,

I have already checked the DMA Settings in Device Manager and all those that have the word 'channel' in them had DMA enabled. Well I have a warning for 1 Primary IDE Channel and 1 Secondary IDE Channel. With the message below:

    ********************

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

    ********************

Will this have whatsoever effect on what i am doing?..

I'll go try using +R or -R and see if it'll work and let you guys know.

Thanks again and ill buy some Verbatim R- tomorrow. Agree

BTW, I am trying to backup some data as well as have tried burning an image. No problem with reading DVDs, only with writing.. Thanks againbowdown

You should have your system running properly before trying to burn disc.
Without knowing what device is conflicting it's hard to point you in the right direction.
Check your hardware device manager, and go from there

  • New!Computer won't recognize dvd burner
  • Question by zombiewolf, Thursday 9th of October 2008 04:11
    Hi everyone:
I am new to the forum and hope that someone out there can help. you are my last hope. I had an lg dvd burner which I decided to replace because it was gettting old and took forever to recognize a dvd. Also, the burn quality was deteriorating. I bought a new lg GSA-H55L Super Multi dvd drive. I installed it, making it the master on the secondary ide. There is also a cd burner on the secondary ide which I made slave. I booted up and the new dvd drive was nowhere to be seen in My Computer. I checked the bios and the bios couldn't detect it either. I then removed the new dvd burner and reinstalled the old one. It was immediately recongnized. I thought I had a defective burner so I brought it back to place of purchase and got another one, same make and model. I installed it and same problem, not recognized. Now I knew it wasn't a defective burner the first time. I decided to try switching the cd burner and dvd burner around, making the cd burner master and dvd burner slave on the secondary ide. All of the sudden both drives were recognized. It wasn't the configuration that I preferred but I decided that I would live with it. I don't run my computer 24/7 as some people do, I turn it off when not using it. The next day when I turned it on, again the dvd burner was gone. I contacted lg and they told me to update my bios, which I did, but it didn't solve the problem. So now I have a brand new dvd burner which I can't use because the computer won't recognize it, and I am at a loss as to what to do next. Somebody please help. I am running windows xp sp2, mobo is asus k8v-x se, cpu is amd athlon 64 2800 1.8 ghz. Thank you

Using an 80 wire ide cable?
Answer by zombiewolf, Saturday 11th of October 2008 18:16
Yes I am using an 80 wire ide cable or ribbon pfloyd 1. Do you think I have a bad ribbon? My only problem with that is if I reinstall the old dvd burner, it is recognized.

  • Lg Gsa H55l Lightscribe
  • Question by capo47, Friday 1st of August 2008 03:07
Hello! I'm a noob ,so please bear with me. I'm so steamed about this burner as this is my first and it turned into a freaking nightmare.
This thing will not lightscribe. It goes through the motions showing printing(scribing)progress bar but once it finishes an hour later it pop out the tray I flip it over and big all NADA! I tried several days different programs updating lightscribe yadda yadda! I finally contacted the seller who referred me to the tech support. This was when I realized I was totally screwed. I told him the model and that it wouldn't lightscribe. He asked me what was lightscribe????EEK!

I explained it to him what the dang thing his company was selling. He told me all I had to do was update the firmware. I told him that I couldn't because it was a external usb. I had tried from LG'S downloads and it stated FW mismatch.
I hung up and resolved to try and solve it myself. It stated if I opened the burner cover the warranty would be void so I did anyway and hooked it up to a cable via another computer. Updated Firmware to 1.05 like a charm.

Tried burning another label same bullcrap. I don't get it this thing will burn dvd's no problem but as soon as I put it upside down for a label it does what it does and nothing on the label. The burner light doesn't flash during the label burn, but does during a dvd burn.

I contacted LG and all they could offer me was that it was probably the medias fault. I used Verbatim lighscribe 16x Dvd +r.

Can this really be a factor? Or is it just passing the buck?

In meantime, I just got so fed up of this useless piece of crap that I went out and bought a HP DVD 1040. What a dream compared to the LG!!

I still want to try to fix the LG and possibly sell it to someone at least to burn dvds.
Any suggestions from you the experts bowdown what the problem could be???
I've read most of the GSA H55L threads here, but so far none of them fixed the problem.

I appreciate your thoughts. I've learned alot from what I read here(taking the drive and hooking it up to flash the firmware).

    Thank-you and best regards,

    Mario
    Answer by Matthew12222, Sunday 3rd of August 2008 02:15
I know this may seem stupid to mention, but you know you have to place the media upside down right? Label side down on the tray.

Another thought would be the usb controller isn't compatible with the lightsribe software. I found alot of external stuff to be very buggy. Did you try Lightscribe-ing something when it was connected via cable (internally)?

    Matt

edit: Welcome To CD freaks mate. Sorry so rude of me to forget in my original posting.
    Answer by capo47, Friday 8th of August 2008 02:42
    Thank-you Matthew!
Yes, turned the cd upside down came out blank. it recognizes that there is a media in it parameters 112 etc..
Contacted LG who thinks it might be a dud.
Sent it back and they are send yet another. In meantime, I bought another usb burner from Hp and it burns labels (lightscribe) like a charm!
Will see if the other LG they are sending does the same thing.

All the best and thank-you for taking the time to answer.
