Want to buy the Lite-On SATA 20x Super All Write LightScribe Internal DVD/Dual Layer RW Drive (LH20A1L06) for some customers of mine.

    *Reliability?
*Can it burn Sony, RiData, Memorex, and Verbatim?
    *Is it noisy?

4AllClients.com or Pixmania.co.uk? Has anyone had any experience with these companies?

    Thanx!
Answer by Womi, Monday 27th of October 2008 20:38

*Can it burn Sony, RiData, Memorex, and Verbatim?

You wont have any problems with Verbatim or Sony media, quality and manufacturers of Memorex and RiData varies a lot.

    *Is it noisy?

Oh yes, 20x LiteOn burners one of the noisiest burners ever. [just my personal opinion]

  • lite-on LH-20A1L Burning DVD+R DL disk
  • Question by acebmxer, Saturday 4th of October 2008 00:02
Hey guys sorry if this is not the right place to post this. I having trouble trying to make a back up copies of some dvds. I have tried just about everything from diffrent softwares to diffrent methods. I have tried PowerISO, Nero alcohol 120. I have tried copping the disk over as in a ISO format or nero's version of a iso and i have tried just copying the files over the the hard drive and burning as a data dvd. I have told nero or using eeprom utility to set the book type to dvd-rom. I have only have 2 disk complet burning one was a game and the other was what i was tring to copy. the game disk works but the other did not. every time it fails to burn just nero just says error but i can not make heads or tails why it failed i dont think its a buffer underrun b/c the buffer is full when it fails. PowerISO gave me a error code of (-109, 987a9b5c) I found one other post with this error but no solution. the media i am using is memorex dvd+r dl. i have tried diffrent burn speeds from 8x to 2.4x.

If i have missed any other information that is need im sorry but i will reply back with what is needed.
Answer by Arachne, Saturday 4th of October 2008 02:14
    Welcome to the forum Smilie

I'd recommend giving Verbatim +R DL a try. For DL, any other brand is a bit hit or miss - sometimes they'll burn, sometimes not.

  • Question: Kprobe error test C1 C2
  • Question by dennisthemenace, Thursday 28th of August 2008 01:27
I just purchased and installed a LiteOn LH-201A1L06C burner. Firmware is BL06. I burned an audio cd and started Kprobe to check it out. On the C1 C2
error test whenever I hit the start icon nothing happens. In the bottom left hand corner it briefly displays 'spinning up drive' then the text 'done' appears.

Tried a DVD+R and it worked fine. Tried a Nero CDDVD read and disc quality test and they worked fine.

The cd seems like a good burn but I am puzzled as to why Kprobe will not do a C1 C2 quality test.

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 32 bit.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
    Answer by labo_2000, Thursday 28th of August 2008 22:11
same thing for me with my DH20A4P
can someone help tell us what's going wrong ?
Answer by Arachne, Thursday 28th of August 2008 22:17
Same thing happens with my LH-20A1H and KProbe.

I personally wouldn't worry about it, as LiteOn DVD burners, while being great DVD scanners, are next to useless for scanning CD media anyway (they don't report all the types of error).

  • Lite-On LH-20A1L Woes
  • Question by AesteroidBlues, Thursday 26th of June 2008 11:45
    Hello,

I just got a new LH-20A1L in the mail from Newegg and I've had nothing but problems with it. I joined the board because it seems you guys know a thing or two about these drives judging from the Google searches. I have an Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard running Nforce 570, which was the beginning of my problems. After a few hours of work I managed to get it to the point where my BIOS and Windows recognize the drive by updating to the latest Nforce drivers. I was happy. Reading media is fine, no problems there.

Then I encountered this (hopefully final) problem. I've installed Nero and am now trying to burn an ISO to a dual layer DVD, Verbatims. Whenever I insert blank media into the drive, Nero immediately stops responding for a period of about 30 seconds, and when I open my ISO it gives me an indefinite "waiting for drive to become ready" message. Once, it actually allowed me to start burning, but then promptly locked up. When I tried to close out of Nero after about a minute and a half, it finally came back and told me the burn process had started and failed (even though it started hanging before the lead-in.)

I've looked in my BIOS and everything is set to IDE, not RAID, but I'm not super comfortable with all my BIOS settings so it's possible I missed something. I'm really wondering if this drive is more trouble than it's worth and returning it to Newegg. Does anyone have any ideas on this thing?

EDIT: I've looked at my BIOS. I have the Serial ATA controller enabled and RAID disabled. The "JMicron RAID controller" is set to IDE (as opposed to RAID or AHCI).
    Answer by bevills1, Thursday 26th of June 2008 17:54
Unfortunately many chipsets don't work properly with optical drives. The Silicon Image 3112/3512/3114 chipset does work properly for optical drives, and you could get an adapter card with Silicon Image 3112/3512/3114 chipset or exchange this LiteOn for PATA model if you have IDE onboard.
Answer by AesteroidBlues, Thursday 26th of June 2008 20:40
Thank you bevills1, I'll set up an exchange right away.
    Answer by bevills1, Thursday 26th of June 2008 21:40
Oops, I left out SATA in first sentence of reply. I meant to say "Unfortunately many chipsets don't work properly with SATA optical drives" which is why PATA would be best choice for non Silicon image chipsets.

  • Only SmartBurn finds LH-20A1L not EEPROM or 20A1L.BL06.patched-fbl-eos-eoht.exe
  • Question by JohnVito, Friday 20th of June 2008 20:13
    Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to update the firmware for LH-20A1L using CodeKing's 20A1L.BL06.patched-fbl-eos-eoht.exe but when launched it can not find it.

Also EEPROM Utility can not find it.

Only Smart Burn can find it.

It can burn and read with no problem.

I'm using Vista 64....is that the problem?

The LH-20A1L is on the #2 sata port on the MOBO.

    Thanks,

    John
Answer by JohnVito, Friday 20th of June 2008 22:14
    OK found the problem!

It's a new computer build using a Gigabyte MOBO and after I installed all the updated drivers from Gigabyte's install DVD, Eprom Utitlties and C0deKing's firmware updater found the burner.

    Thanks,

    John
