CMC MAG. AE1 can be good discs, but IMO anything under the Bulkpaq brand is suspect (lower quality).
Have you tried a different brand to rule out the discs?
Answer byBIGGBILI, Sunday 9th of November 2008 21:33
Since the other brand dics ran out these type of disc's are the only ones I have. I used a tool from another site which seems to have an effect on the DVD-RW. So far 3 successful disc's in a row !!
But is there and explanation on why all this happend ?
Virus perhaps ?
I tried updating my firmware but I couldon't find the appropriate software.
Answer byArachne, Sunday 9th of November 2008 23:18
Interesting - what tool did you find that enabled the discs to burn?
It looks like your Litey has OEM firmware (I have two 1635S's and the firmwares are completely different to yours) - did your drive come installed in a pre-built PC, such as Dell, HP etc?
If so, try the PC manufacturer's website. If you can't find any firmware there, post back and I'm sure someone can help you switch to proper LiteOn firmware
Answer byBIGGBILI, Sunday 9th of November 2008 23:22
Im not sure what it was called as i deleted the program lol. Il have a look and find out.
Yes my drive did come pre-built and my PC is Compaq
Il have a look at the Compaq site and il get back to you
Regards.
Answer byBIGGBILI, Sunday 9th of November 2008 23:52
Just burnt another DVD .....failed ..It writes it successfully but iv realised on ImgBurn whilst its Syncronising Cache it stays on that mode for a bit and then when the Disc comes out I have like two layers burnt on that disc.
Don't know weather you understood that.......
Answer byArachne, Sunday 9th of November 2008 23:58
I would suspect, given the brand of disc you're using, that it's just variation in disc quality - I've had the same thing happen with CMC MAG. AE1's under the Datawrite brand.
If you can try and grab a better brand of disc, your burn luck should improve. If it doesn't, post back and we can go from there.

I'm gessing it might just be the blanks, although straight after this failed task I tried it again using a different blank and burned perfect.
I haven't had this many fail burns in a long long long time
Answer byDialysis1, Monday 10th of November 2008 19:28
Your firmware needs an update.
You also need better media.
Answer byBIGGBILI, Monday 10th of November 2008 19:37
Can you direct me to where I can do that please ?
Answer byHemispasm, Monday 10th of November 2008 19:40
Dialysis1 said: Your firmware needs an update.

This is excellent advice. Please try these out and post again with results. Hopefully you wont have any more problems.

Answer byBIGGBILI, Monday 10th of November 2008 19:45
Can someone please guide to me this perfect adivce?
I tried that site yesterday, the software I had downloaded apparantly there was no LITE-ON drive detected.
I downloaded the LITE-ON 1635S but for my firmware yp70 i couldon't get hold of.
Answer byArachne, Monday 10th of November 2008 19:55
As I said yesterday, a different brand of media is probably all that's needed .
Perhaps post in our LiteOn forum, about flashing LiteOn firmware onto your drive. Perhaps an extra step is needed since you drive currently has OEM firmware.

Question byLilbluemine, Wednesday 15th of October 2008 12:17
Hey i have a query about Lite-on EXTERNAL SHW-1635SX USB2.0 Dual Layer 16x.
My friend is giving me it in a few days because I am graced with having a Medion computer with a Matshita dvd burner which doesn't support bitsetting which i am in need of.
My query is this : Does this model support bitsetting, The all knowing all powerful being that is google, has yet to show any results remotely related to whether this model actually allows you to change the book type or not.
Answer bybevills1, Wednesday 15th of October 2008 17:39
The Book Type Utility may be used to bitset +R SL media to DVD-ROM, but it must be reset each time the system is restarted because LiteOn 1693 and older models reset to default +R book type. Alternatively the OmniPatcher from http://club.cdfreaks.com/f44/omnipatcher-liteon-sony-optical-drives-v2-6-2-a-97590/ may be used to permanently set default book type to DVD-ROM for 1693 and older model LiteOns only.
Answer byDrageMester, Wednesday 15th of October 2008 18:08
The LiteOn SHW-1635S(X) being a newer model than the 1693, so it remembers the BookType bitsetting once set.
