How do i record?

Hi

I have just got this DVD Recorder (actually it's a DVDR3460 but that option wasn't available) i have lost the instuctions (clever i know) and i don't know how to record. When i try to record i put a recordable DVD in and i press record and a timer comes up but nothing happens the timer stays on zero. Can anyone attempt to explainhow to do it to me?
