  • SH-W162C Burner Error!!!
  • Question by badsubby, Wednesday 29th of October 2008 23:22
    Hi,

I had SH-W162C dvd/cd burner for 2 years. I have updated it to firmware S12 which is the latest one. For some reason when I burn dvd's every program gives me the error:

Unit attention, Power On or Bus device reset occured

CD's burn fine however. I dont know what the problem is. I have tried different media discs, shutting off unnecessary programs in the background, burning at the slowest speed, etc. but nothing seems to work.

Please give some suggestions so that I can fix the problem. Thank you so much. Confused

Hi, can anyone help me out? Can someone at least tell me what setting should the drive be on in the bios?

I have options for LBA, CHS and Large in my bios.

Also, I have noticed that the hd light on the pc freezes when I try to burn while the writer light is blinking and then it gives me this error.

Also what is IMAPI service? SHould that be on or off?

Please help me because I really need it.

If you have problems only with DVDs, it is possible that the drive is damaged. There are two separate lasers on the optical pickup, so if the DVD laser is gone you can still read/burn CDs.

To exclude a software issue or a hardware incompatibility with your mainboard, I think that the best way is to install the drive in a different computer. Maybe you can ask a friend to run a test Smilie
Answer by badsubby, Thursday 30th of October 2008 17:14
Hmm...Is it failing because maybe its dirty or something?
    Answer by geno888, Thursday 30th of October 2008 17:19
Usually when only a specific media gives problems (as here, when you can read/write only CDs but not DVDs) the cause is not a dirty optical pickup. Probably the DVD laser is "fried" and the CD one is still working.

Of course, you can try to clean the pickup, but if the laser is damaged this will not solve the problem Frown

Looks like it doesn't like the media type you're trying to burn.

  • Extracting from pre-scratched DVD - data ok?
  • Question by xboxmods3077, Sunday 19th of October 2008 14:34
Wsup guys (and Gals), I have a question that I can't seen to find the answer to in Google.

My brother burned me a DVD game yesterday and it plays fine.
The problem is that just before I put it in my computer to play it, I checked the data side of the disk (habit) for fingerprints/scratches etc. Upon inspection of the disk I see a stripe of non-written area spanning from the center of the disk to the outside edge of the disk. Apparently, before the disk got written to, it had a scratch and my brother, who never checks the disks write surface before a write, wrote to it anyway. Now comes my question.

In a case like this, during the burning process, does the CD/DVD recorder skip the damaged area and continue writing?, meaning can the contents of the disk be extracted in original file size and condition?, or is the damaged area written to as the writer has no idea that the disk is damaged?

The reason I ask is because I have extracted the contents of the disk in question without error but I am reluctant to re-write this suspect data to another DVD for fear that the game will have errors anyway.

Thanks, in advance for your input on this matter.

If the game on "scratched" disk is playing OK, than I would just burn new disk from your copy and try.
It may not be a scratch after all, because if it copied without error it should be OK.

  • Samsung SH-W162C / TS-H552C: burning problems with blank dvd RAM
  • Question by alexkinnet, Friday 29th of August 2008 10:09
When i tried to burn /write apparently all worked well , but than neither Pc or player could recognize blank.
so apparently nothing was done withthe blank.

this was the only dual layer blank Parasonic 3x speedavailable in the large audio shop in Bruges ( Belgium)

Any solution; or is those blanks a total loss??s

If you were using DVDFAB then we need a lot more information than that such as version, a burn log also if it's about the burner you are requesting help on then there is a burner forum also a blank media forum, The most highly recommened DL media is Verbatim DL any other brand is subject to failure.

This is your 3rd thread in as many days and you have apparently ignored any replies...or have you even looked?

    1) Follow the advice already given to you in your other threads
    2) Provide the information that we already requested...now, for the third time
    3) Read TF Manual
    4) Stop double and triple posting. It's against form rules and it's frustrating and difficult to follow or offer advice.

Sorry but bear with simple minde guy from Belgium.

    First remark: i'm used to the system that one gets an e-mail whenever reply is posted. I overlooked that this isn't your policy;

Second I'm in the process of sorting out problems, managed to deal already with single layer blanks but was running into the problem with those DVD-ram blanks.

Unfortunately the choice in alternatives is too wide and one get's quickly very much frustrated and that not only with audio stuff.
apparently the specialised shops's personnel isn't adequetely informed themselves.
thanks however to bear with me.

If you selected the right drive when creating this thread, then your drive cannot be used to write to DVD-RAM. Check its specifications again.

In any case, previous requests for information still stand. Smilie
