I bought this dvd/cd rewritable drive and installed it to copy dvd's and now I have this file called VIDEO_TS,read only ? Icannot delete anything in the file. It says read only, cant delete.I also see the name logical volume identifier and I dont know what any of this means or how to delete these movies from my hard drive.I also get a Nero message saying I need a dvd-video multichannel plug in because my trial has expired. Should I upgrade to Nero 9? My main concern now is the video_ts files I cant delete. Thanks for any help!-John
Answer by CDuncle, Monday 27th of October 2008 15:14
VIDEO_TS contain all video files of your movie and menus.
You can burn it to DVD using your burner or delete. Read Only is normal attribute.
If you have trail version, you need to upgrade to play that file. If you want new Nero it is up to you.
You can try to open that folder with Window Media Player, came with the OS.
If the file cannot be deleted, it is used by other software, just restart computer and you will be able to delete.

I would resist purchasing Nero 9 unless/until they get their act together. I have been a long time Nero user (as it has met my needs) but Nero 9 was a major setback for users.

There are many things you can do with VLC, imgburn and many others (which are free and excellent). Also make sure you always use quality media (Verbatim or TY - always Verbatim for DL media). You might also want to take a look at a thread regarding Nero & Roxio.

how can I delete these read only video_ts files? when I try to,I get a cant delete-read only files cant be deleted message. the files are some movies I recorded on my dvr and tried to copy to dvd disc.they are taking up alot of space on my computer and I want to get rid of them but cant. Thanks!
Answer by CDuncle, Thursday 30th of October 2008 13:25
It looks like some software has a hold on them.
Turn computer off, wait 5-10 seconds and star-up again.
Delete the files without opening them. Use Explorer to find them.
    Answer by jeff53404, Thursday 30th of October 2008 13:30
If you've had them on your machine for several days and still can't delete, try right-clicking on each file. They might have been set for "read only". Change that setting and you should be able to delete.
    Answer by jeff53404, Thursday 30th of October 2008 14:46
If the above doesn't do it, try unlocker. The link is for XP. If you have a different OS, search for the appropriate version.

  • DVD shows Data(mode1)
  • Question by USHouseman, Wednesday 22nd of October 2008 16:31
I'm haveing a problem making backups of my DVD's. I've been working with the LG forum for a while and no one can seem to figure out the problem. I'll try to be clear in describing this. I had been using NERO, DVD43 and a SONY DVD RW DRU-840A SS01 burner to make backups. I had a few problems with NERO and decided to buy 1Click. The problem is when the copy completes I can not play it in either the burner it was created in or my DVD player. I loaded VSO Inspector and it shows the disc as Data(mode 1) in my burner. When I put it in my 2nd drive, ROM, it shows as a DVD Movie and it will play. I have removed all the software and reloaded only 1Click and DVD43, same result. I've tried different media, same result. I've sent logs to the LG forum and no one so far can figure it out. Now if I write the original to a temp folder and burn the backup using NERO, I get a good backup. HELP!
Answer by Dogg, Wednesday 22nd of October 2008 20:41
Sounds like a problem with 1Click or DVD43, not with the drive itself. It's obvious the drive works (which you have verified using Nero).

Did you have a trial version of Nero on your pc, prior to trying to install this new version of nero? Have you tried using a clean tool to remove all bits of nero from your pc, prior to trying the new (clean) install.

  • Sony DVD-CD writer problems
  • Question by cbs, Saturday 20th of September 2008 01:12
I replaced my HP 753c cd writer with a Sony DRU-840A. I keep getting corrupt files when I copy to a CD. The originals are fine. On trying a second time I get the copies. The total MB is less then the 750 to fill up a CD. What is wrong?
    Answer by geno888, Saturday 20th of September 2008 20:49
    Welcome to the forum Smilie

First of all, there is no need to type in bold Wink

Some possible causes are the following:

    • A damaged RAM memory module (run a memtest to check your RAM)
    • A faulty IDE driver (rather frequent with some old VIA or nVidia IDE drivers). Installing standard microsoft IDE drivers should completely solve the issue
    • You are using very low quality discs, so the burned discs have so many errors that all files are corrupted

  • Change in the burning speed
  • Question by letaphi, Sunday 7th of September 2008 01:34

I installed Sony DRU-840A DVD burner in March 08 and it came with Nero OEM. I used to burn the 4.4 G DVD in 15 min or so. For last week, it has started taking 45 min or more. There is no change in my computer system or DVD blank. This started to happen when I was copying the indian movie DVD and it asked me something about the region. Can you please help me? I would like to go back to faster burning speed........letaphi

  • dvd eject not working
  • Question by ctemplar27, Wednesday 23rd of July 2008 22:45
    Hello,

I have a Sony Vaio desktop RA810G. When I press the dvd drive's eject button on the front panel of the cpu, it makes a clicking sound as if it is trying to eject, but the drive door never opens.

After trying various troubleshooting ideas, I reverted to the tried and true method of banging on top of the cpu after pressing the eject button and it works, the drive ejects.

However, I got tired of using this method and bought a new dvd drive thinking the problem was with my old drive. Now I have the same problem with the new drive as well, it won't eject if I press the button or if I right click the dvd icon and press eject that way. It simply keeps making the clicking sound as if it is trying to eject, but won't.

    Any suggestions?
Answer by mciahel, Wednesday 23rd of July 2008 23:57
    Hi and Welcome,

since the new drive does the same, I guess, it is the drive cover of your computer case that blocks the tray from ejecting.

yes, there are tools to patch stock firmware to RPC1. Please have a look into the Samsung "mini FAQ" (see link in my signature) for details.

Michael I am evidently Blind but every time I try to find a Link to Download this cdfreaks.com sends me somewhere else. I have been looking for about a days and still have not been able to Understand How this system works. ALL I am looking for is a DOWNLOADABLE Patch that I can tell it to DOWNLOAD and it will listen to me. I am Sorry because you have tried and I am ready to stop using my account and having it removed. I can't seem to Understand how to work with this kind of system.
Answer by Albert, Wednesday 23rd of July 2008 04:40
As instructed in the ChatBox when trying to help you...

Download the Patch Utility for Samsung drives: http://club.cdfreaks.com/f105/patch-utility-samsung-mtk-based-dvd-writers-v3-2-1-new-242508/

Download the stock SS01 firmware for your drive: http://codeguys.rpc1.org/firmwares/sony/dvdrw/stock/840A.SS01.stock.rar

Read up on how to flash a Samsung drive, and get SFDNWIN [if you actually read the thread, there is a link to it]: http://club.cdfreaks.com/f105/howto-flash-firmware-samsung-dvd-writer-231217/

Use the Patch Utility to patch your firmware so that it's RPC1. Then flash following the instructions in the HOWTO that was linked above. Good luck.

And before you ask, your drive is a rebadged Samsung. I have done the process before on the drive. Wink
