my sony DW-U54A reads cds but can't recognize dvds(evendata)

hello 2 all. i have an acer aspire1700 notebook with a problem in the dvd driver(dead), irepalced it with a sony dw-u54a driver. It did not work first since the pc has the driver in the slave channel :sad angry

nd the bios could not (see) the driver..but i forced the driver for slave mode function by shortening pins45-47. the pc recognized the driver in both bios & windows bigsmile

but now the drivers can only read cds and not any dvd - or ,even data dvds are not recognized or readable. Really Sad

i tried the sony update utility to update the firmware but i got a message that the system is not a sony, can any one help please?.
