Noob Here.. I need some simple Instructions on how to rip a Copyright protected dvd using Favc/Imageburn, If its even possible. I just got these programs and I have no Idea how to Do this. Please drop me a link to some info Or tell me whats up. Thx

    Hi everfinal and welcome:

Dowload DVDFab HD Decrypter (free) and rip the DVD to your drive. The program should be self-explanatory. Neither of the programs you have are intended to do what you want.

After using DVDFab HD, you'll have the appropriate files needed in a VIDEO_TS folder on your HDD....Now here's a guide you can use for the FAVC and IMGburn....Good luck!

A pretty concise method that revolves around freeware apps is:

DvdFab Hd Decrypter to rip files to HDD.

Dvd Shrink to compress (transcode) those files to fit on a standard single layer disc.

    And Imgburn to burn.

Looking up Favc is for converting as it stated

"A GUI for several different free video tools that takes one or more AVI files and produces a DVD folder ready to be burned to a DVD and played in any regular DVD player."

So if you going to rip as what you want to do that program won't do it and imgburn won't burn if Favc can't rip the dvd. You need to get another program for that. But that is from my research of that topic.

Hey guys I can't thank you enough for your help, I'll take a couple hours for research and development and I'll hit yall back with my results. Thank you all.

    You're quite welcome:

I gave you a quick answer because you asked about ripping to your drive. If you want to go beyond that using the suggestions from the other members, a solid piece of advice is to only use quality media. That usually comes down to two choices (Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden and only Verbatim if DL).
Answer by everfinal, Wednesday 29th of October 2008 01:07
OK NOW. A success is very appreciated my friends. Knowledge is definatley power.

But now another one If I may.

    I've used Sothink dvdmoviemaker To convert some .avi So that I can watch them in my dvd player. I have 2 players and it works in One but not the other. ok then.. I use your advice and my success works in BOTH players. My question is Can I Rip the dvds created with sothink and make new ones all over from the beginning that will play in both players? so far its not working :{

    Thanx again/sorry for the load
    Answer by t0nee1, Wednesday 29th of October 2008 01:19
What format are the files created by Sothink dvdmoviemaker? Are they in DVD structure? I'm not familiar with that proggie...
Can you be a little more specific?...The devils into details....

    Welcome to the forum Smilie

    More information is needed Smilie

What discs are you using exactly? Can you post here brand and mediacode? The mediacode can be found with DVD Identifier or with cd-dvd speed or with ImgBurn (all free softwares)

Are you trying to burn a too large file on the disc maybe? How did you create the ISO file? What is the ISO file dimension?

The 2 DVD-R Discs that I used are Memorex and Maxell. The ISO file is 3.8 gb so it would fit perfectly onto the 4.7 gb disc.

Both discs you are using are not exactly the very best, and maybe your drive is not able to write these discs correctly.

Did you check if it is available an update for the drive firmware? Maybe this is sufficient to solve Smilie

  • AD7190-A not recognizing any media for burning
  • Question by poppycat, Monday 15th of September 2008 21:33
    Hiya,

[ Newbie note: I found this forum while searching for answers to my error codes. Lots of great info here! ]

Kay, my Optiarc is refusing to burn audio or data discs, although I have been able to watch DVDs and read data discs in that drive. I was using DeepBurner and CDBurnerXP-- neither program would complete a burn. I had tried TDK CD-Rs and FujiFilm DVD+Rs (that's what was in the drive when i did the scan below). These are the error messages I'm getting:
    - "layout contains more data than the media can store" (even with only one mp3 file 'to be burned')
    - Error sense data: SENSE KEY: 5 ASC: 30 ASCQ: 6
    - "no sufficient space on current media"
Additionally, if I open any blank or burnt disc in Windows Explorer, and right-click for Properties, every disc shows up as totally used, no free space at all. What? Is it possible that this is not even an optical drive issue?

If anybody can point me to a post I missed, or some advice, I'll make you some yummy cookies! Seriously! I really want to solve this. : )

Er... I just tried a LightScribe CD that I found laying around. That disc worked.... EEK!

    ?????

What's with these compatibility issues? I've noticed this in a lot of posts.
Answer by Arachne, Monday 15th of September 2008 22:21
Welcome to the forum - love the nickname BTW Smilie

Although I don't use those two programs, so can't help with the errors, the Fujifilm discs (RITEK F16) can be quite variable in quality.

Are you attempting to burn at high speeds (16x+)? Does a burn even start, or does it fail straight off?

Out of curiosity, what brand is the LightScribe disc that worked, and what speed did you burn it at?

This may take a little digging, but we'll get to the bottom of it Wink
Answer by poppycat, Tuesday 16th of September 2008 02:12
    Hi!

Thanks for responding! The lightscribe disc was in a jewelcase with a Hewlett-Packard liner. I threw away that paper though, and I don't remember much else about it (about six weeks ago i found this disc on someone's trash bin, i took it home because i'm not cheap, I'm veryveryfrugal...and that was when I tossed the liner.)

It was trying to write at 16x until I lowered it to 8, 4, and then 2x to try to get it to work. Every attempt failed after the... buffer overrun test? Like, each program would test the buffer and the write-speed and then grind gears for a few seconds and then quit with a tantrum about "incompatible media". With the LS CD that finally worked, however, the disc wrote in 55 seconds at its highest speed. I was dumbfounded, actually.

    Meow?
Answer by Arachne, Tuesday 16th of September 2008 14:56
Hi again (I ws getting ready for bed when you posted) Smilie

The HP LightScribe disc was likely to be made by CMC Magnetics (the HP DVD+Rs and CDRs I have here were), and it's possible that the drive likes those better than the RiTEK ones.

Just to rule something out before we go with a media compatibility problem, can you take a look at one of the links in my signature - "How to check/enable DMA" - and make sure the Current Transfer Mode in Device Manager for all your IDE channels is UDMA Mode x (where x is a number), and not PIO Mode?
Answer by poppycat, Tuesday 16th of September 2008 18:58
ooooh, the primary IDE channel was in PIO mode. I changed it to 'DMA if available' and on restart the setting stayed in place. is good?
Answer by Arachne, Tuesday 16th of September 2008 19:02
Yep, that's great that the setting stuck (although there is a small file you can run, if in future the settings don't stick after a reboot - details here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/1712827-post3.html). Smilie

Try another burn now that everything's in UDMA mode Smilie
Answer by poppycat, Tuesday 16th of September 2008 19:29
Okay, I have successfully burned two data discs using the Fujifilm/RITEK DVD+Rs. ---w00t! thanks --- The TDKs still don't work, though. meh.

I know this changes the topic, but if buying a specific manufacturer's discs is the ultimate thing, and brands don't list their manufacturer data, then how does one go about buying discs??
Answer by Arachne, Tuesday 16th of September 2008 19:38
Glad you're up and burning Wink

Edit: I'm not sure of any websites in the US that display the manufacturer info (although most of our US members use www.rima.com for their price and selection).

I personally recommend CD-R made by Taiyo Yuden...I think I've only had like one failed disc in all the ones I've used. They sell them at Rima Smilie

Other than that, in regular stores, look for deals on any CDR made in Japan, as it'll be Taiyo Yuden-made Wink...and look for deals on Verbatim DVD media, which are excellent discs that you'll be pretty safe with.

For good deals on media, keep an eye out in our Bargain Basement forum - plenty of US deals to be had!
Answer by poppycat, Tuesday 16th of September 2008 19:50
Ta-Da!! I was just reading up on that in other parts of the Forum. Thanks for the recommendations, also! LOL, i'll honor the offer of baking cookies here!Smilie

BTW, I ran DVDIdentifier on that LightScribe/HP disc that had originally worked, and it couldn't ID it. Mysterious! Whatever, I'm gonna try those TY and Verbatim discs, and give away the TDKs. I only had three left anyway.
    Peas!
Answer by Arachne, Tuesday 16th of September 2008 19:54
Mmmmm....if I was in the US I'd definitely take you up on that cookie offer bigsmile

Since I'm in the UK, they might be a bit stale by the time they get here bigsmile

Edit: chances are, the HP discs was definitely made by CMC - I like them, good discs Wink

    @ artusus,

    Welcome to the Forum.

You do not need any “Drivers” to install your Optiarc AD-7190A Drive. The “Drivers” are part of and contained in the Windows Vista Operating System.

It would be extremely helpful to provide the full complete untruncated error narrative and any error codes you received when attempting to install your Optiarc AD-7190A Drive.

Explain in full detail exactly what you mean by your “It Appears Like Installed But With Errors” statement.

  • Optiarc AD-7190A crossflashed to DH-203P support jitter scan?
  • Question by bnguyen, Wednesday 27th of August 2008 21:33
As the title said, I crossflashed my AD-7190A to DH-20A3P but jitter scan is not support. I've seen other drive 20A3P support jitter scan.

Is there something wrong with my drive? or the drive is just simply not support jitter scan?

Thanks in advance for your input.
Answer by KTL, Wednesday 27th of August 2008 22:50
Have you tried clicking on the Advanced tab in Disc Quality and check the Jitter box?
Answer by bnguyen, Thursday 28th of August 2008 00:41
Thanks KTL for the replied. Yes I did but jitter still doesn't seem to work.
Answer by Albert, Thursday 28th of August 2008 02:17
I know this may seem like a generic reply, but different versions of CD Speed don't all allow jitter scanning with every capable LiteOn model. Try different versions of CD Speed.

Also, keep in mind that the jitter pass comes after the PIE and PIF, and that there is no jitter scanning on CDs.

Also also, which firmware are you running?
Answer by bnguyen, Thursday 28th of August 2008 09:30
Albert - I'm using Nero DiscSpeed 4.11.2.0 and F/W XY13. I will try different version of CDspeed to see if any thing happen.

    Thanks for the advise.
    Answer by xx521xx, Thursday 28th of August 2008 09:47
I have an AD-7190A crossflashed to Lite-On DH20A3P, and I can confirm that DiscSpeed 4.11.2.0 doesn't support jitter testing with this drive. Search for CD-DVD Speed 4.7.7.16 - that version does jitter testing just fine with my drive.

    Annoying, isn't it. Doh

4.7.7.16 was giving me jitter results before, but now it stopped. Rolleyes I can't figure out why this is so flaky.

Does it matter if you are doing 4x or 8x scans? I've switched recently to 8x scanning with my Lite-Ons.

    I'm using firmware XY13.

  • CPU Usage 100%. DVD-RAM not working properly
  • Question by krislogy, Thursday 7th of August 2008 21:21
    hi, my name is krishnan.

i bot a dvd ram (sony / optiarc ad-7190a) abt 5 months ago.
everything was working all fine, until one day, (yesterday),, i noticed that it wasnt!!
(fyi: m using win xp sp2 OS)

    --------

history of events to back up the topic:
2 dayz ago i was trying to write a dvd (moserbaer, but most definitely duplicate) from my drive. but i was not able to. nero showed: calliberation error
sooo i googled abt it and found a solution. it said go to that IMAPI services (its mentioned below) and change the start up mode option to disabled.
i did the same, and successfully wrote those duplicate dvds (no calliberation error problems).

still ther was no prob. but when i began reading the contents from those dvds, the problem started.

    -----------

    the problem:
ever since after i read those duplicate dvds.. when i load a cd/dvd in, and play a video/music it runs slow and un-smoothly... CPU usage reaches, sometimes, upto 100% while reading the disc.
    ..
.... same thing happens if i try to view the dvd/cd contents in Thumbnail mode (coz when it reads from the drive, processor usage shoots up and evthg goes slow)

    first thought:
maybe the dvd was not good. so i tried with different cds n dvds.
result: negative; all showing same results

    second thought:
maybe the dvd-ram drive has gone bad. so i tried it on another pc.
result: negative; the device was working perfectly fine on the other one.

    third thought:
maybe some nero software problem or settings problem. so i uninstalled nero 7. also, i set the start up mode option in IMAPI.sys service in Control Panel>Admin Tools>Services back to manual.
result: negative; still no solution. the same problem occurs

    -------

thus, as of this moment, i am clueless. the only thing i know is there is nothing wrong with my optiarc device. some setting that i must set/reset..!

so.. plz plz plz help me in any way possible.

hey one more thing: when i was checking the system info from nero info tool, i saw that for the optiarc dvd-ram drive, the DMA (direct memory access, i suppose) was turned OFF. hope this is of use

    ---------------------------

    plz Really Sad
    thanks

Answer by Arachne, Thursday 7th of August 2008 21:30
Hi Krishnan, welcome to CDF Smilie

Yep, it sounds like there were read errors on one or more of those discs, which caused the drive to drop into PIO Mode (rather than UDMA Mode, as it should be).

Download and run the "resetdma.vbs" file from this post, and if it finds any IDE channels in PIO Mode, it will reset them, then ask for a reboot.

Hopefully, that should solve it Smilie
Answer by krislogy, Thursday 7th of August 2008 22:49
    hey hi arachne,

i tried ur suggestion. but the vbs sayz "No resettable ATA channels with Windows drivers found. Nothing changed."
i gz it didnt detect it then Frown

    suggestions?
    .
    ..
... but the nero info tool shows that the drive's DMA mode is OFF

so... i searched some places in the forum and found this:
    http://club.cdfreaks.com/f86/slow-burning-problems-nec-3500a-121177/

which had another link to microsoft.com:
    http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/IDE-DMA.mspx

.. i 've tried this option but not working. so m gonna restart my pc rite now.. (one more info: in the above MS link: it sayz that i need to change the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box to DMA,, but the sad part is ther was no "drop-down box" for that label Frown .. and so, m gonna restart the pc... )

do suggest me something.. thanx a lot Smilie
Answer by Arachne, Thursday 7th of August 2008 22:54
    Oh dear.

Can you tell us if you have any motherboard IDE drivers installed - nVidia or something else?

That may be why the tool isn't detecting it, 'cos the drive's definitely in PIO mode from what I can see.
Answer by krislogy, Thursday 7th of August 2008 23:11
    hey hi SmilieSmilieSmilie

    the problem got solved..

wel.. i restarted my as stated above. but stil it didnt work. meaning
the current transfer mode still didnt have any drop down menu.

so, i uninstalled that primary ide channel driver and restarted the pc. it detected the new hardware, n so my optiarc will live happily ever after Wink

thx for ur help too SmilieSmilie

  • Sony DVDRW Optiarc weird problems
  • Question by delphinen, Sunday 13th of July 2008 20:23
Hello everyone, this is my first post so sorry in advance if this is not the right forum to seek help about this problem.

I bought an Optiarc AD7190A a month ago which randomly would read or burn cds or dvds on my computer (mother ASUS A7V8X-X), most of the times would fail. Because of this, I tried the burner on my work: it worked flawlessly on 2 computers, reading and burning cds and dvds. Both computers had even worse performance than mine in general. Mine is an Athlon XP 2000+ and those where Pentium III and Semprons I think.
Well, I tried again the burner on my computer, this time I randomly changed the PIO mode in the bios from Auto to 0, and DMA mode from Auto to 1. I booted, and the burner worked PERFECTLY on Windows 2000 SP4. I even upgraded the firmware.

The problem is that the burner still does not work on Linux/UNIX (Ubuntu, Fedora, FreeBSD, you name it), it behaves like it when it was in Auto mode. I/O errors.

What are these PIO and DMA modes? what should I try and why the "Auto" options of my motherboard didnt work well even to Windows? How to make the burner work on Linux/UNIX like it does on Windows now? The burner its working for hardware as secondary master.

    Thanks in advance.

Maybe you could replace the ide cable (with an 80 wire ide cable) and try again?
Answer by THE C., Monday 14th of July 2008 17:39
Its worth a try on what Chef said. Unistalling the drive in the device manager and then rebooting computer let windows reinstall the drive might help to without using a new cable.

  • Burning a blank dvd+r of Taiyo-Yuden at 1X
  • Question by bope, Saturday 28th of June 2008 11:50
Hi i need to burn a ISO file on the dvd .I have Taiyo-Yuden dvd+r 8x.
The problem is the iso file needs to be burned at 1x or 2X , because this DVD contains more than 250,000 files - if i do not burn the ISO file SLOWLY, i will get read errors, guaranteed ,burn the ISO at
1x, regardless of how fast your burner and discs are.

I tried to burn some Moser baer at 1x it burned succesfully, i burned it on Img burn and Nero 8.2.8.0 but when it was verfying that data it started giving Data error on the dvd that i had burned.I am not sure how to go about it should burn the Taiyo-Yuden dvd+r 8x at 1x or burn at 8x.

    Thanks
Answer by Womi, Saturday 28th of June 2008 11:59
As far as I know, the number of files doesnt matter at all.

Burn the disc at 8x for best burn quality.
Answer by cd pirate, Saturday 28th of June 2008 12:16
1x burning will result in more errors. Taiyo Yuden 8x +R are some of the best 8x discs ever made. They are designed to be burnt @ 8x and any newer DVD writer will have no problems writing to these discs @ 8x. Some will even burn them @ 12x with no problems.

I suggest a minimum speed of 4x. Unless you are using an ancient writer that has no support for these discs. In which case please get a new writer as they're dirt cheap now and way faster+better than ever before.
    Answer by Sunshine12, Saturday 28th of June 2008 12:52
The minimum burn speed for a dvd+r is 2.4x.

I really wonder how you did that! Would you mention the burner used? I don't know of any modern PC burner able to burn @1X. Disagree

As others have mentioned, the number of files has no impact whatsoever on the burning quality. You've been misinformed by... misinformed people, or maybe extremely outdated sources on the net. Maybe, though, you have a huge burst rate issue (or buffer issue) with your computer, that lead you to think that slower burning speeds are necessary. Only seriously messed-up configs will bring such issues, and lowering the burning speed is only a poor workaround.

Nowadays @4X is the absolute minimum speed to burn current SL media with correct quality. Slower almost always gives awful burns since the media isn't manufactured for such slow speeds. Add to this the fact that the burners will then resort to generic strategies, not suited to the specific media you feed it.

I wonder how long we'll have to fight this Urban Myth about slowest burning speeds.. Rolleyes
