No, the HD DVD and BR discs are physically different so a firmware update would not be able to make it support BR. Toshiba made the drive for MS so I highly doubt it has a dual format reading...

My products
Unfortunately, I have no consumer electronic products in my possession. Also, there are no products I have on my wannahaves list at this moment. My Reactions:
They forgot a major tip on the Apple support page:
Download the software update that will fix this flaw in our product, it will be available eventually.
Lets hope for Apple's sake this can be fixed via a software update.
I'm glad I read all the news on this problem. I was seriosuly thinking about finally making the iPhone plunge on Monday, but not now, not until this whole overheating mess is sorted out.

I suppose you could say its a cash grab by Apple since 10s of millions of users buy the updates, but I think for only $10 Apple's updates are well worth it..
Apple's updates add several enhancements and new features. What would a Zune update give ? Probably fixes, because MS doesn't know how to innovate new features

Another point, iPhone and iPods apps are being adopted by all types of industries, automotive, security, medical, education, the military etc..etc.. with all those industries developing apps for private or public use.
I don't see any Zune being used much outside of the digital entertainment industry.

This new Zune is technically amazing, based on the nvidia Tegra etc.. it has alot of horsepower and some nice distinguishing features like 720p output over HDMI. But how long does it take to download a 720p video to it ? And how big would that be to store ?
It likely will not have the "polish" of the apple products and will not have anyhwhere near as many apps available for it. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is games. There were rumors it would be able play all XBOX Live...

In most cases a detailed "still" image on HD cable can look similar to a blu ray, but as soon as there is motion the cable picture exhibits nasty motion artifacts due to the compression levels. And the crappy Scientific Atlanta cable boxes
For HD cable, unfortunately it can depend on the provider and also the specific channel. Some channels cost more on a monthly basis because the channel insists that the cable provider use low compression, taking more bandwidth on the...

Oh please. There are 140 million PS2s out there, of course its most played by far. My 8 year old nephew plays his all the time, but what serious gamer still only has a PS2 ? And if they are waiting for PS3, for what, a good enough game ? That's sad for the state of PS3 after 2 & 1/2 years on the martket. 360 had many games worth getting the console for a long time ago, and there is still not a true "console selling" title for PS3... kinda lame.

PS3 is too expensive and the coming price drop is overdue.
Read the original interview. If PS3 is selling better then why did he say this:
"I'm getting concerned about Sony; the PlayStation 3 is losing a bit of momentum and they don't make it easy for me to support the platform. It's expensive to develop for the console, and the Wii and the Xbox are just selling better. Games generate a better return on invested capital on the Xbox than on the PlayStation," Kotick says.

I find that this IS ridiculous mr. johnzap !
These aren't even commercial softwares !
They are telling MS they can't put their free browser in Windows because other free browsers don't get the same treatment ? What a bunch of BS. Sorry but I believe in MS's freedom to bundle whatever they want with their O/S.
Why stop with MS with IE ?
Why not go after Apple for bundling iTunes ?
Why is Europe the only place in the world this is an issue...

The "best" blu ray player IMO is the one with the best picture, not fastest load times. So to me Panasonic make the best sub $500 blu ray players because they have the best picutre (I can't comment on some high-end Denon, Pioneer or whatever..)

Very well expressed but also a bit unrealistic on some details/points.
I agree to a point but at the same time I am very happy to adopt SUPERIOR new formats. Format changes are not always about the industry making more money and soley for finacial reasons.
Moving from DVD to Blu ray is a step up in technology and in my opinion a far superior experience. After owning a 42" plasma for 3 years with only DVD, when I finally got a BR player I felt I was finally getting the value from my...

Exactly, so for this thing to truly be a success, they need a couple of dozen unique guitar hero calibre games, not just a handful on titles.
Guitar hero controllers are designed for the games, like steeting wheels and flight sticks. This is a generic device that will need alot of good game support to succeed. And yes it is a risk for the companies that make the games specific to the device because they are limiting their customer base to "natal" owners.

I smell a dud. I think it will fail. And I am a huge XBOX fanboy/junkie.
It could be cool for a coulple of games but I highly doubt there will be any significant "natal" platfom-selling titles which is what it will need to succeed.
Translation: if there aren' several kick ass titles that take direct advantage of it, then kiss it goodbye. And that's a double edged sword ! Making games that require an add-on controller is a recipe for failure too.

They (Rogers included!) need to do something to reduce the ridiculous costs involved with owning an iPhone. I want one, but have resisted because of the retarded data rate plans you are forced to take.

Back in the day of Sega Genesis vs. Nintendo, Nintendo had a 3 strikes type of qualification program for releasing games on their platform. Game developers had to submit the game to Nintendo for testing. If a bug was found they would refuse the game and the developer had to fix it and submit it again. I believe they had 3 chances to get it right. If it failed 3 times, the game was banned from ever being released !

Klingon Academy anyone ? A bit obscure but a great game with show-stopper bugs in the intial release. It was impossible to pass the 6th mission until the patch was released. Fans were flipping out at the time waiting for the patch. Myself included
