My products

Unfortunately, I have no consumer electronic products in my possession. Also, there are no products I have on my wannahaves list at this moment.

My Reactions:

I am happy to report that the local Costco has a large stack of Sony model 300 blu-ray players sitting on the showroom floor - idle - not moving - at a $380 price. I just hope it stays that way so the blu-ray camp figures out that they need to offer feature complete and quality standalone players at reasonable prices if they expect their beloved format to grow and/or survive. Until then - it is HD-DVD and upconverted standard def dvd for me. cool

Unlucky? My HD-DVD players, movies and high def theater work perfectly and consistently - and cost 1/3 of what even a bottom of the line profile 1.0 blu-ray player is priced at today. Movies cost 1/2 to 1/3 also. HD-DVD will hold me just fine until Sony/Matsushita manages to learn how to build reliable profile 2 blu-ray standalone players at something approaching a reasonable price. coolThis message was edited at: 12-05-2008 20:17

I'm perfectly happy with my HD-DVD player and movies, and my standard definition dvd's played upconverted on my 1080p TV. No need for blu-ray for a while at least - certainly until the prices come down out of the stratosphere. cool

And - don't forget - Warner is punishing HD-DVD customers by holding back the release of "I Am Legend" in HD-DVD format for another 3 weeks which just eliminates any high def competition for blu-ray - - for a while anyway. I'm waiting the 3 weeks for the hd-dvd version, thank you. coolThis message was edited at: 21-03-2008 06:17

This is good news. Now if only they had this capability in a standalone blu-ray player that was priced reasonably - it might actually matter in the overall scheme of things . . . cool
21 Mar 2008 06:13

If blu-ray takes more than 2 years to offer profile 2 players for under $200 - it will be doomed to remain the small niche it is today forever and be swept away by the next technological home theater development before it can become mainstream. It would be lucky to even approach the rather meager market penetration laser disc achieved. cool

Slysoft makes good products and provides excellent support - but their enormous price increase as of the first of 2008 makes their products terribly overpriced and no longer worth it. It's too bad greed has spoiled a reasonable product offering. cool

I picked up both "Into The Wild" and "Things We Lost In The Fire" HD-DVD's yesterday on sale at Best Buy. If those are the last Paramount HD-DVD releases, they will be my last purchases of Paramount releases for quite some time. cool

Blu-Ray has a long way to go . .
I like my HD-DVD system and movies very much.
This consumer did not choose blu-ray. The movie studios and retailers chose.
I am buying more hd-dvd movies as attractive titles keep dropping prices.
I like my anamorphic standard definition dvd's played upconverted to my high def TV very much.
I do not like blu-ray profiles, drm or prices.
I have no need for a blu-ray player in any hurry.
That's the way it is until some major changes occur with blu-ray.

I'm happy to report that my hd-dvd players and collection of movies apparently do not know they are dead, as they continue to work perfectly. What to do with my hd-dvd players - keep using them. Blu-ray movies offer absolutely no quality or convenience advantage over hd-dvd releases so there is no need to ever replace a hd-dvd release with a blu-ray version. HD-DVD players are superb upconverting players, breathing new life into a person's standard definition dvd collection. Blu-ray is...

There was never any indication the A35 was selling at Best Buy for $99 - it was sold out at the $149.99 price on-line. I was in a local Best Buy store yesterday, and they still had plenty of hd-dvd equipment and titles, mostly at full price. They even still had the full hd-dvd demonstration display running (and looking better than the blu-ray demo next to it). Fry's also has some HD-A35's at $149.99 - I grabbed one. It apparently doesn't know it is dead - neither does my HD-A30 - nor my...

This is just more of the usual nonsense spread by Sony shills . . . cool
25 Jan 2008 16:30

Like I said - Slysoft jacked up their prices by a huge percentage (yes - by switching the monetary basis for their pricing - but the result is the same) and their products are no longer worth what they try to charge for them . . . and the free product I mentioned is upgraded as frequently (actually more frequently) than AnyDVD. Kudos to Fengtao . . .
But if you like Slysoft enough to pay their exorbitant software prices - that is surely your privilege. cool
25 Jan 2008 07:06

I can say it very easily - Slysoft jacked up their prices an exorbitant amount around 1/1/08 - it is no longer a good value for the money - even with their various coupon discounts they offer. DVDFabDeCryptor is free - and works just as well. coolThis message was edited at: 25-01-2008 00:22

Slysoft's new pricing structure makes all of their programs terribly overpriced. Save your money.

Can I please point out that if you look through the signatures of the "save hd dvd" petition you'll find MOST of the signatures are of people supporting Blu-ray saying stuff like "Blu-rules!" etc etc."

That's only because their parents haven't realized they are playing on the internet instead of doing their homework . . . cool

Do I need HD-DVD or Blue-Ray? No, of course not.
Do I LIKE watching material in high definition instead of the old standard definition? You bet I do.
A message to the person who says he cannot see the difference between a 1080 high definition broadcast vs. a standard definition broadcast - there is something radically wrong with your system! The improvement in video quality when going from a standard broadcast on any TV to a true high def broadcast (meaning high def source material being...

Buy or rent a dvd that comes with commercial interruptions? Don't be silly. I don't even watch broadcasted shows or movies unless they are being played back from a device that lets me skip commercials.

Desperate greedy people and organizations do desperate greedy things. Examine everything you do which results in money being sent to organizations who are members of or support the RIAA - and stop those activities. The more this goes on - the less money i spend on recorded music. cool
12 Oct 2007 21:00

Well, consider that if there is any organization that should know what a thief looks like - it is surely Sony . . . . cool
