Apple sold more than 150 million songs since iTunes opened

GristyMcFisty used our news submit to tell us that Apple sold 150 million songs over their pupular online music store iTunes. According to an article, found over at CNet,  Apple sold this amazing number of songs, since iTunes started in April 2003.

Apple iTunes sales quicken

Apple Computer said Thursday that it has sold 150 million songs since the opening of its iTunes digital music store in April of 2003. The new figures, which include sales from its recently opened stores in Europe, put it on pace to sell more than 4 million songs a week, or more than 200 million songs a year, the company said.

Apple passed the 100 million mark in early July, which indicates the pace of sales has sped up over the past few months. A report this week from The NPD Group indicated that the overall customer base for digital music sales has declined somewhat in recent months, however.

It seems that more and more people are staying away from P2P networks and are moving over to legal online music stores like iTunes. An indication for this trend and the growing popularity of iTunes is the fact that the 100 millon mark of sold songs was reached in early July and 150 million mark in early October this year.

50 million songs in about 3 months, that means that Apple is selling now more than 4 million songs a week and this count will rise again when Apple opens more stores around Europe this month.
