Pac used our news submit to tell us that Plextor Europe has delayed shipment for the PX-716
because the company considers the current state of the drive to be not of the
quality that Plextor customers expect. Heise reports that
the problems are mainly when writing at high speeds.
In a
phonecall with the Marketing Manager of Plextor Europe we were
told that an average user of the drive would likely not even notice
the problems but as many Plextor owners are above average users the company has
chosen to delay the drive. The problems are likely not to be solved with a
firmware update only and likely require hardware modifications.
Unfortunately for Plextor, a small amount of drives was already launched in the United States due obligations to stores and some users who get their hands on one of these drives reported on our forums that the quality of the drive was on many cases far from expected. Current owners of these drives can be assured that Plextor will take care of their problems and solve them.
