According to a report over at CE Pro, looks like LG put out a memo indicating the desire to produce a combination or dual format HD-DVD/Blu-ray player. They also say that they are dropping the Blu-ray, 1080p, BD199 from the spring release lineup that they displayed at this years CES.

The memo also informs dealers that the company will be removing the 71SA1D and 62SA1D LCoS 1080p Micro Display Projection televisions due to "certain part procurement issues." "To avoid negatively impacting dealer assortment and business planning, we are removing these models from our line-up at this time," the memo says. "We will make an announcement if and when these models become available in the future." |
You can take a look at the player that never was if you like, among other products, by visiting the CES report from Las Vegas, given by the Blu-ray Disc Association here. Interestingly, LG just signed a licensing sharing agreement with HD-DVD backer Toshiba, just a few weeks ago.

lg is famous for the super multi format drives (i think they even registered name "super multi")
it would be ultra multi for their next optical burners....hopefully

$$$$$ Money $$$$$
All rules were made to be paied for

I will be sticking to DVD for a long time, I am not counting on any release of any new format soon. They will continue to fight over standards, connectors (hdmi) and all that crap.
URK

dual format (+dvix & dvd i think) would be a good sing for consumers...i hope the price won't be like sum of two players

If someone know technology a bit he should also know that it's worthless to spend another time $$$ to buy a movie you already have in DVD if this movie was not originally recorded in HD.
From VHS to DVD it makes sense for a lot of issues but from DVD to BD o HDDVD NOT! So they will have serious difficulty in having a success like when the DVD hit the market...
