Sony adds HDTV reception to two new DVD recorders.

Just announced, two new recorders from Sony, the RDR-GXD455 and the RDR-VXD655 now incorporate ATSC digital tuners that will allow reception of digital signals transmitted over the air.  Neither of these recorders will actually record onto an HD disc and the HD signal will be compressed down to a standard definition signal before it is recorded.

Both units do have the DVD upscale ability so the image will be an improvement over both SD and progressive signals when viewed.
