DVD sales in Europe still going strong

With all that downloading going on you probably would never thought that DVD sales were still doing well, but at least in Europe the sales of DVD movies is still doing well. According to DEG Europe, and based on GfK and OCC/Nielsen tracking, it is predicted that sales volumes will have hit eight per cent growth by the end of 2007 and the overall market value is set to grow by 0.6 per cent in 2007.

Analysis for January to June 2007 shows that sales volumes have soared by 5.7 per cent compared to three per cent in 2006. Also the sales of DVD player and/or recorders is still doing well and it is expected that about 31.5 million of these devices will have been sold troughout Europe in 2007 which is a growth of nearly 3.5% over 2006.

The big shots of the movie industry think that the ongoing strong sales of DVDs is mainly due the high amount of blockbusters that have been and will be released. Maybe they'll realize that if they release what people really want, they'll buy their stuf...

Err, DVD sales are still strong in most parts of the world. Why is this a surprise ? Joe six pack and co don't really give a hoot about HD DVD and Blu-ray. It's all smoke and mirrors to them.
