Netflix ditches HD DVD for Christmas
Netflix subscribers have been informed the movie rental service will no longer carry HD DVD titles as of December 15.

Come mid-December, any HD DVD titles in customers' queues will be replaced with standard DVDs. The move was foreshadowed in February, when Netflix announced it had stopped buying HD DVD discs, but comes at a time some when some HD DVD titles are not yet available on Blu-ray.

Netflix's move away from HD DVD comes as it strengthens its online offerings, recently sealing deals to deliver content to Xbox 360s, TiVos and Apple Macs.

Netflix promised it would happen at some point before 2009, so this really isn't a shock.  I wonder what they're going to do with all of the used HD DVDs?  Maybe offer them at an extreme discount for HD DVD owners who are looking to maybe expand their movie collection with some discounted movies?
