PQI to introduce new SSDs at CES

Power Quotient International (PQI) plans to show off a new range of solid state drive (SSD) hard drives this week during the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this week in Las Vegas.

The company based in Taiwan plan to display the 1.8-in. S518 microSATA SSD, and the 2.5-in. S525 SSD, with both drives having up to 128GB storage capacities and 154MBps read/90MBps write speeds.  The S518 is designed for notebooks while the S525 has been designed for external use.

PQI plans to show off the 32GB Express Card SSD S520, a new SSD storage device that users can plug into the PCI Express slot of the computer, or simply use it as a USB flash drive.

Non-SSD and flash-based products will also be revealed by PQI during CES, which starts tomorrow in Las Vegas.

The company previously introduceed a 2.5-inch 256GB SSD in May of last year.

Despite the higher cost of SSDs, the technology is expected to be well represented this week during CES.  Companies look to push the storage boundaries of SSDs, while also dropping the price to help make them more appealing to casual consumers.
