The Taiwanese company Acard has announced an external USB enclosure for 2.5" harddisks. The enclosure has space for two of them, which as added feature the ability to use them in a RAID setup.
The model (ARS-2212) supports RAID 1 when both drives are in the enclosure but it's also possible to use either one disk or two disks without going in RAID mode. According to the lists of compatible discs the enclosure supports currently discs with a capacity of up to 320 GB (per disc). The enclosure does need to be connected to a power source to work, the USB connection alone is not capable of supplying this to the enclosure.
The enclosure is 1.6cm in height and both the width and depth are 16 cm. The S-ATA diiscs go next to eachother in the enclosure which is likely done for better cooling performance but also makes it small and portable (too bad you still need an external power source)
The enclosure also features a USB to S-ATA controller and a crashed disc of the RAID array can be replaced having the controller take care of rebuilding the array automatically.
