The Plextor PX-708A is probably one of the most anticipated DVD recorders at the moment, able to write 8x to DVD+R media, 4x to DVD-R media and as recently became known, it also writes 8x to certain types of 4x DVD+R media. The drive itself should become available world-wide as we speak, but forum users NoLimit took the time to show us some more pictures on the drive. One of them is from Nero Infotool, showing all supported features.
In
this thread on the Club CD Freaks Plextor Forum you find some more pictures and encourage NoLimit to do some additional tests.
A list of recommended media can now be found on the Plextor Europe website and 4x media that can be written at 8x are manufactured by Mitsubishi Chemical (Verbatim), Ricoh and Taiyo Yuden.

I could give you a full review as I have known about this drive way back, as I have been in touch with Plextor Europe via e-mail and I can inform you it is due for release this month.

Only a few more day's till mine comes! (Fed-EX says Tuesday!) Got mine at newegg the first day it came in (was in stock for an hour maybe) and got it for 30 USD LESS than what it shot up to the next day(and is still now)!

I got mine at best buy in Sacramento on Sunday (9/7) It's great. Traded up from the DRU500a. Was a little worried about the 2MB buffer but it seems to write a little faster than the Sony and a lot smoother. I still havn't used the 8X disk it came with...I don't want to waste it. It still rips slower than most dvd roms but I don't plan on ripping with it anyway.
