According to a news published at Daily Tech, Blu-ray Disc Java is coming this fall, and it may be incompatible with some of today's machines.
As stated in the news, all players manufactured after October 31 must support BD Java, a programming language for Blu-ray Disc media used mainly to deliver picture-in-picture for in-movie commentary and special features.
It seems that some Majors avoided to release some titles in Blu-ray format because of the lacking of a definite standard. Moreover, the addition of BD Java is not the only new requirement for Blu-ray players this fall. All players released after October 31 must hold a minimum 256MB of persistent memory storage. Those with network options will have to have 1GB of memory to support Web downloads.
I wonder how this will influence end-consumers decisions about the new format to choose.

It is a big deal, but relatively so... When one considers that the VAST majority of BR players purchased are PS3 players/consoles-- it really is not a big deal (relatively speaking).
It almost sounds like the new standard was designed around the PS3. Heck, if "The Cell Broadband Engine" optimized for media like this won't handle PIP--- I do not know what the MORE POWERFUL alternative for an even remotely affordable player could be. Not that all players will use Cell. Personally I think Cell will handle it swimmingly and many other processors will do just fine.
Point-- I do not think this will have much of a negative affect. In fact, it should be promising to the studios that the blueray group is finally getting their their junk together and unifying things like the HD DVD camp did from the get-go.
