Also LG announces cheap 4x DVD recorders - aims to be No. 1

Our moderator Kenshin posted on our forum a partly translated article from the South Korean Digital Times. According to this article also LG aims to become the No. 1 optical storage drive manufacturers and will be releasing a 4x DVD recorder for a low price in 2003.

LG Electronics (http://www.lge.com) in Seoul told various reporters on 13 that it will expand the domestic South Korean DVD writer market and keep its leadership in the worldwide optical storage market by becoming No. 1 in DVD writer market as well. According to the press conference, LG Electronics will be able to bring the price of DVD-Multi drives down to the level of current CD writers in 2003 by component integration and volume production. During the second half of 2003, LG will also produce 4x DVD writers and DVD-Multi drives that can write to DVD+R and DVD+RW discs. For now, LG is supplying its DVD-Multi drives through HLDS (Hitachi-LG Data Storage) to seven PC vendors including NEC, Apple, IBM, and Fujitsu.

Earlier also Lite-On announced cheap DVD recorders. More information can be found in this thread on our forum.

nEXusJI could barely understand a word you typed, but from what I gathered, you don't like LG. I have an LG burner, and can't find a single problem with it. CloneCD backups, audio burning, data burning, S/VCD burning, CD-RW burning, etc. What more do you want for that price? ( I paid $115 Canadian dollars for a 16/10/40 more than a year ago.) That said, I'm looking forward to these cheap DVD burners.

nEXusJ I agree with you, LG drives are of very high quality. In fact a guy I know who sells PCs says they are better than the LiteOns.
