Apple gets NBC, Sci-Fi and USA network TV shows for iTunes

Apple has announced a major addition to the lineup of video from television. In another deal similar to the one with ABC, Apple has penned an agreement with NBC, USA Network and the Sci-Fi Channel for a nice boost in it's video offerings with 11 more television shows. Can CBS be far behind?

"We're thrilled to expand the iTunes video catalog with 11 popular TV shows from NBC, USA Network and the Sci-Fi Channel," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "In our first two months we've sold more than three million videos, and have expanded our TV catalog from five shows to 16 shows."

NBC Universal programming now available on the iTunes Music Store spans from the 1950s to the present, including NBC's "Law & Order," "The Office," "Surface," "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," the USA Network's Emmy Award-winning "Monk" and Sci-Fi Channel's "Battlestar Galactica" as well as classic TV shows including "Alfred Hitchcock Presents," "Dragnet," "Adam-12" and "Knight Rider," on the iTunes Music Store beginning today. Customers can purchase and download their favorite shows, including current shows the day after they air on TV, and watch them on their computer or iPod. The NBC Universal programs will be available in newly designated areas of the iTunes Music Store featuring the NBC Universal brands, including the NBC network, Sci-Fi Channel and the USA Network.

I think the vintage shows would be popular for some, this is a nice feature. The iTunes store is undoubtedly the place to go for your downloads if you like to watch TV this way. Do to DRM restrictions, you cannot burn these shows to optical, but you can watch them on a PC as mentioned in the quote. Available only in the US, the programs cost $1.99 each. More information can be found by visiting the iTunes store.

this whole IPOD and video thing is so over-hyped do you really need to watch TV while you are outside?? hey here's an idea.... how about actually paying some attention to the world around you... yes there is a "real" world out here (at least until the icecaps finish melting...) puke

Hmmm... real world? You mean driving to work trying not to get in a wreck during morning rush hour, spending a wonderful day at work with an a$$hole boss you hate, and then returning home through the same rush hour traffic you encountered that morning? Sometimes watching TV is a nice change.
