Yesterday Apple announced that new movie releases will be available on the same day as their DVD release. The giant announced this through a press release on their website. Important movie studios like Walt Disney, Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox, Paramount, Universal, Sony Entertainment, Lionsgate, Image and First Look Studios will release their newest movies on Apple's iTunes. New releases are priced at $14,99 and catalog titles will cost you $9,99.
Movie distribution is digitalized by the second and at Apple they are thrilled with their latest announcement. “We’re thrilled to bring iTunes Store customers new films for purchase day-and-date with the DVD release,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes. Of course you can easily transfer the movie to your iPod and enjoy it during your daily trip to work, definitely targeted at the movie enthusiast. Cue said in his release that movie fans will "love" this new feature.
This is a good move by Apple and should give them a stronger position in the movie industry.
