Womble used our news submit to tell us that Apple has started selling music videos with the release of its newest version of Apple iTunes. The videos are being sold with No digital rights management (DRM) as part of some music albums available on the service. The absence of DRM means that the music videos can be shared freely and used on any computer and played at any time. The music videos can be downloaded once the purchase of certain albums is complete, you can either download several short clips or 1 video file. The videos use a resolution of 480x272 and run at 30 frames per second.
The bands that have files available for download on the service to play on Mac or PC are as follows Dave Matthews Band, Gorillaz, Morcheeba and The Shins. Although there are only a few videos available that are known Mac Observer reported that there were around 50 music videos available for download on the service.
Analysts are already predicting that Apple may release a Video enabled Apple iPod in the future to help drive its Apple iTunes service. However in the past video enabled devices such as MP3 players have not sold so well, of course Apple could change all this. For now its unknown how much of an important feature video downloading will become on Apple iTunes.

Officially, downloadable music videos to play on a Mac or PC are available from Dave Matthews Band, Gorillaz, Morcheeba and The Shins. However, research by BetaNews, as well as reports by Apple news Web site The Mac Observer, found some 50 videos across the service. Several analysts have said that a video-enabled iPod is the next logical step for Apple as it looks for ways to drive its digital music business. Thus far, however, video-enabled devices have not sold well. It is unknown at this time if the video download option will become a bigger part of the iTunes service, or whether Apple has plans to extend video downloads past music videos and into other genres as well. |
Now that would be great a video enabled ipod, of course it would have to have a good battery life to be of any use.
