Archos Gmini400 portable player small size powerful OS

The soon to be released Archos Gmini400 goes way beyond music with long-awaited features such as a color LCD for viewing photos and videos, a CompactFlash reader for storing photos and data and the ability to play games.

Features:

  • Play MP3, WMA, and WAV music files and record in stereo
  • Store up to 300 hours* of music
  • View album cover art on color LCD
  • Transfer and store up to 200,000* JPEG images using built-in CompactFlash™ reader
  • View photos on color LCD or TV
  • Store and watch up to 80 hours* of videos and movies on color LCD or on a TV
  • Play games

The Gmini400 features a powerful operating system called AVOS. For instance, it features a double browser as a music file management system for the organizing of your files. You can delete, rename, copy, move files and even create folders directly on the AV400 without using a computer. In addition, you can build playlists, view album art, even display your own "desktop" background.  An amazing product with a lot of features, the website says that though it is not available, it's coming soon. I don't call anything that doesn't have a build of MAME for it an OS.

benprim - It's a 20GB 1.8" Hard Disk . Also: Screen 2.2" LCD 220x176 pixels Internal Li-Ion battery giving 10 hours of music or 5 hours of video. And music playback - Stereo MP3 decoding @ 30-320 kb/s CBR & VBR, WMA (Including copy protected files with Microsoft PD DRM), WAV (PCM & ADPCM). AA battery option would have been better but it's following down the Ipod path of internal rechargable. I won't buy one because of this alone. But that's just me. Otherwise it looks pretty good.
