Battle of the recordable DVD formats finally over

After a long battle the war of the recordable DVD formats is finally over. Last week the consortium of DVD intellectual property holders, DVD6C, added DVD+R and DVD+RW to a list of licensable DVD products.

For years only DVD-R and DVD-RW were part of the consortium's licensed list. It all changed at the beginning of this year. With this changed the two formats are now officially equal in the eyes of the DVD industry and will attract the same royalty rate.

The war between Blu-ray and HD DVD attracted most of the heat and eclipsed the DVD war. Modern multi-format DVD writers and players already made sure that it didn't matter which format you would use, but now we can conclude that it ended in a draw.

headquarter84Maaan!!! and i thought it DID end in 2003/2004!!! maybe the DVD6C should visit CDFreaks more often and make faster reactions! too bad DVD+R didn't have equal royalties while holding the same quality as DVD-R... this move should've been taken 4 years ago!! cry
