BenQ DW822 double layer firmware upgrade to be released at 09-30-2004

Currently BenQ is an often mentioned name when it comes to double layer writing as the company continues to release information about its drives. Once again the company is in the news now pictures of the box of the BenQ DW822 have been released. The pictures clearly show a part of the box that says that a dual layer firmware upgrade will be released at the 30th of September 2004 on the website of BenQ.

Announcing this on their boxes is probably in a move to sell more drives of that type. Many customers are currently delaying the purchase of a DVD recorder to be sure that their drive will be able to recorder double layer DVD+R media. The box also promotes BenQ booktype setting software.

More information and pictures can be found on this Japanese website.

dansmugCurious to see if Plextor will do the same. After all, their drives are so costly for the good support. See if that's really true.
