BenQ DQ60 specifications

DVD+RW 8x Read speed
DVD-R DL 8x DVD-ROM 16x

The drive and specifications look suspiciously similar to the TEAC DV-W516E which has been out in Japan for some months. The TEAC DV-W516E uses Panasonic chipsets and is according to rumours a TEAC design but with the manufacturing outsourced to BenQ.

code65536Although manufactured by BenQ, this drive is designed by Teac and uses a Panasonic chipset (vs. the Philips Nexperia chipset used by all the previous BenQ drives). So it is certainly possible that this drive will not be as good as the 1640.

I have found the Panasonic drives to be very good at ripping discs that other drives and DVD players will not rip or sometimes even read. That is why I still keep my old 2x Panasonic burner installed in my Computer. So I would say if they are using the Panasonic Chipset they would probably be very good.
