BenQ's new 4x/4x DVD+R/RW writer, the DW400A, features Mount Rainer support, 8 MB buffer size, 16x/10x CD-R/RW write speed and 40x/12x CD/DVD-ROM read speed. The DW400A will be released in the second half of May and will utilize key components from the optical storage joint venture company BenQ and Philips have formed.

BenQ DW400A specifications

  • DVD Write: 4x, Rewrite: 4x, Read: 12x, Max
  • CD Write: 16x, Rewrite: 10x, Read: 40x, Max
  • Buffer size: 8 MB

DVD burners are this year's product focus for BenQ's Optical Storage Business Unit. The DW400A will solidify BenQ's brand leadership in the optical disk drive market as well as stimulate market demand for high-speed DVD burners. A BenQ spokesperson reveals that the company will launch an even higher-performance 8x-speed model in the third quarter, which promises to sustain vigorous sales through the second half of the year.

Many of the DVD media manufacturers have just started volume production of 4x media so the question is if there will be any 8x media available already in the next quarter? You can read BenQ's complete press release here.
