To make sure that the customer decides on the disc format, Buffalo now comes with a Blu-ray combo drive that supports HD DVD. According to the press release this product is aimed a the 'tech-savvy customer'. The BRHC-6316U2 can both read and write Blu-ray discs and is fully backwards compatible. Reading and writing speeds of single and double layer Blu-ray discs are up to 6x, while HD DVDs can be read at 3x. DVDs and CDs are taken care of at 16x and 40x speed respectively.
Buffalo promises that this drive is a cost-effective option for SMB/SOHO users. "This combo drive will meet the users' needs by giving a choice of formats in one device, as well as ensuring investments in historic DVD media are not wasted. For the SMB audience, this drive also provides a good alternative solution for storing data to DVD," says EMEA Product Marketing Manager Gerardine Lynch.
This combo drive targets and is believed to be easy to use, but is definitely made for the technological buff.
