Budget Blu-ray players at Asda... Or not?

Buying a high-definition Blu-ray player is expensive, and because of this many haven't done it yet. Besides paying a huge amount on the player itself, you'll need to save some cash for a HDTV and a new movie collection. Of course this is the format's greatest burden and the reason why many are waiting for a retailer to show what's possible... $200 for a Blu-ray player? Asda, a retailer that's part of the Wal-Mart family spoke about the subject with TechRadar.com.

Ed Watson, head of PR at Asda told the website that they currently do not have any serious plans, but sees this will happen in the future. After Wal-Mart decided to sell some cheap Blu-ray players, it would've been a logical reaction from Asda to do the same. Currently Asda sells four different players, and only two of those are Profile 1.1., which allows the player to offer Picture-in-Picture interactivity and has BD-Java compatibility.

“[There’s] no plans as yet but we will be getting them in the future at ASDA Price, of course,” Watson told TechRadar. With this said we know there will be a cheap Blu-ray future, but not now.
