CD Freaks presents Lite-On SOHW-812S DVD±RW review
Today, or actually yesterday, we have added a new review to our review database as Tor Magne, better known as OC-Freak, has taken a look at the Lite-On SOHW-812S dual format DVD recorder. The Lite-On drive supports 8x recording to both DVD-R and DVD+R media while DVD-RW and DVD+RW media can both be written at 4x. Of course the Lite-On drive can also write CD-R media, at 40x, and CD-RW media, at 24x. Here's part of the conclusion:

First of all it's one of the few DVD-Writers to support 'correct EFM encoding of regular bit patterns", this makes it a number one choice for backing up protected games. While we are at it we could also mention that it has no problems with protected audio discs either. And the reading performance with most disc types is very good, this includes DVD-Video discs which most other drives reads at low speeds. The writing quality at 8x DVD+R speed is very good, and the writing quality with most quality 4x discs is good too. CD-Writing is both fast (40x) and good with almost all disc types. On top of this it supports bitsetting for DVD+R/RW discs.

If you want to find out if the Lite-On SOHW-812S drive, currently priced at less than US$ 100, had any negative points you will have to read the complete review here. If you want to comment on this review you are welcome to react on the review itself or by using this forum thread in our Lite-On Forum.
