Today we are proud to announce a review of the Pioneer DVR-215BK DVD burner, which Pioneer was kind enough to send us for review. Like the DVR-115D, this drive features 20x DVD±R, 10x DVD±R DL, 8x DVD+RW and 6x DVD-RW writing speeds. A few improvements include the use of an SATA interface and for those who use DVD-RAM media, this drive also includes support for up to 12x DVD-RAM writing and reading performance. Its reading performance is 16x for single layer DVD-ROM and DVD±R, 13x for DVD±RW, 12x for dual layer DVD-ROM and DVD±R and 5x for all CSS protected DVD-Video discs.
Like Pioneer's recent DVD writer models, to help improve write quality, read and write performance and minimise noise & vibrations, this drive features a multi-effect LCD Tilt Servo Compensator Mechanism, an Ultra-DRA low vibration mechanism, performance adjusting firmware and a Disc-Resonance Stabiliser. This drive also supports 8cm CD & DVD writing and reading as well as the usual CD-R/RW write and read support.
Our senior reviewer Wendy Collins has carried out an extensive review of this drive, covering a wide variety of CD and DVD recordable and rewritable media. A few highlights from the Author's page include benchmarking CD-R, DVD R and DVD DL media in Nero against other same/similar speed drives, standalone DVD-player compatibility tests with dual layer DVD-R & DVD+R media, CSS protected disc ripping, the "Sheep Test", overburning, Mini DVD reading & writing and Video CD disc tests. To see how this drive performs in Wendy's extensive review of the drive, please head over to the review here. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to post these as a reaction to the review or in this dedicated thread for the review.
