Despite Blu-ray only being on the US market for under a year, a Blu-ray title has become the first high definition disc to enter Amazon's Top 10 DVD sellers list according to this MI6 report. The Blu-ray Title "Casino Royale" has reached the #7 spot at this time of writing, with its standard definition DVD version at the #1 spot.
With such a high rank for a Blu-ray title, this will most likely result in record-breaking sales for a Blu-ray title in the first week. So far, the top Blu-ray seller in its first week was "The Departed" selling around 20,000 units on Blu-ray in its first week.
Having such a high rank will also help promote the Blu-ray format, since those who regularly check Amazon's top selling DVDs but have not paid much attention to the news on the next generation HD formats as a result of the format war may start assuming Blu-ray is winning with such a high rank.
At this time of writing, there are four Blu-ray titles and one HD DVD title in Amazon's Top 100 selling DVD list, with "Black Hawk Down" being the 2nd highest selling Blu-ray title at #58. The only HD DVD title in the Top 100 is "Children of Men" at #93, selling as a Combo HD DVD and Standard DVD.
