Corel promises better video quality with Win DVD 9

Yesterday Corel announced the latest release of WinDVD called WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray. WinDVD is a DVD and video playback software for PCs. The newest version features a new interface, new video technologies, Blu-ray disc playback and better sound. Corel states that the new interface is more intuitive and should help the consumer in a better way. Secondly the advanced upscaling possibilities should make this product 'good for the movie buff, frequent flyer and those who want a superior video', says Jeff Hastings, General Manager of Digital Media at Corel.

New video technologies are added to create a better video. For example Corel added Unique Trimension All2HD Upscaling, which converts standard-definition DVDs to a near-high-definition video without the added expense of HD drives and media. Corel also added a technology that is made to take away the judder effect from fast-motion scenes and a De-Snow Filter. This filter removes digital noise from MPEG, H.264 and VC-1 low-resolution video.

The new name, WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray, tells you something else. It enables Blu-ray playback. Corel promises that this product offers you advanced interactive content support and the latest surround sound technologies, like Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD surround sound.

WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray is priced at $99,99 and is available now. Corel says that more and more people adopt high-definition technologies like Blu-ray and AVCHD. With WinDVD 9 Plus they promise those adopters the latest in Blu-ray playback... What do you think?

So when are they going to update LinDVD?
Nice promises. And they even go as far as to tell you which graphic card technologies they support. But NO ONE tell you under which operating system. So you can actually end up being scr*wed BIGTIME. I got myself a G35, only to notice that PowerDVD didn't support my graphics driver. The card it did. A little reading then told me, i had to use Vista and the Vista Driver....... DOH. Now i'm looking for new hardware.
