Custom bitsetting firmware for NEC 6500 compatible drives available

Liggy, CD Freaks Site Administrator has been busy again. This time he has a treat for those of you lucky NEC ND-6500 compatible drive owners! It's a modified firmware 2.24 and also a version 4.24, which is made for slave devices. Including some code from MadDog's 3500 firmware 2.fd, with this and maybe some help from the latest version of  Binflash , you can now select which booktype to use on your DVD+R, +RW and +R DL discs!

After quite some work, it should be done now. Although not everything was tested, we should now have firmwares for the NEC ND-6500 that fully support bitsetting on Plus media.

If your drive works as a master drive, you will need the modified
2.24 booktype firmware - while you need the modified 4.24 booktype firmware if your drive works as a slave drive.

Both zip files contain 3 firmware files:
X24orig.exe - Only added support for booktype setting
X24fast.exe - Including riplock patch
X24rpc1.exe - Including riplock and RPC1 patch.

If you are using Windows, you can just run the executables which contain the latest Binflash version 1.14. If you are using a different operating system, use the latest
Binflash version for flashing. There's no need to use a special bin file, you can just use the exe file - even with different operating systems.

Those of you that want to give this custom firmware a try, or if you would like to join the discussion that is already in progress - head on over to the NEC forum.
