Daemon Tools 4.00 released with many changes

msanto, Shoebedobedoo, oliwan and captqbec all used our news submit to tell us that Daemon Tools has released the next version of this very popular utility. You may experience a bit of trouble accessing the site as it seems to be overloaded at the moment due to this new release. In the meantime, you can read the notes and change log below.

In case you don't know about Daemon Tools yet, the software provides a virtual CD/DVD-ROM on your computer with which you can directly mount image files created by various other software packages. Daemon Tools can also emulate many popular copy protections so that you can always play your back-ups, even when your drive normally cannot copy the protection.

Notes regarding the 4.0 release:

Dear DT-Community,

Today, we release the new V4.00. As we already heard from our customers, it fixes indeed most or even all blacklists - however, it is STILL a SCSI-Emulator, therefore it"s still necessary to remove present IDE-Drives! As nearly all protections now block ALL SCSI-Drives, no matter if REAL or VIRTUAL, you need to DISABLE your ide-drives!

This version is more or less only a "next step", it does NOT contain an IDE-Jammer atm. However, we are working on it and will hopefully have it ready soon. So be warned - do NOT complain about the "lack" of the IDE-Jammer-Device. We release it now, as is. It fullfilles its job as long as no IDE is present in System or you otherwise block that IDE-nodes. After all it"s STILL free!

Another important change is the integration of ADWARE. Yes, we need that revenues. However, we decided to let YOU choose to run it with ADWARE and support us - or simple turn it OFF in installation-process and run it same way as former versions - without ADWARE. By default, it is turned ON - to not install that ADWARE, please UNCHECK at installation "DAEMON TOOLS SEARCHBAR" (or you can remove it anytime later when you wish via "Control Panel"-> "Add/Remove programs") We leave that decision to you, so please don"t blame us that we did it that way. It was a compromise to continue the free support - we would much appreciate it if you install that ADWARE-stuff.

We set- up a special forum so please post in THAT forum only about questions, concerns or anything else that is related to that ADWARE. The forum"s name is "DAEMON Tools Searchbar".

To sum it up:- NO IDE-Jammer atm - we are working on it! No ETA for it - it"s done when it"s done! - ADWARE INCLUDED - you can, however, UNCHECK that ADWARE at installation!

The changelog for V4:

  • Complete redesign from scratch support of 4 virtual drives ONLY X32-supported now.
  • X64 will follow Drivername randomly generated on each machine (not finished yet)
  • Drive-vendor and version number randomly generated
  • Complete new emulation architecture DCP (DaemonCodeProtect) to make analyses harder and increase development time for malicious anti-DT tools
  • Digital signature verification of applications who are trusted to access DT in secure mode
  • AutoInsertNotification fully implemented (can be turned on/off at ControlPanel)

Dropped:

  • MS-Installer, DT now use modificated NullsoftInstaller
  • Analog sound support (as Windows 2000 and above do not need this feature) supports all popular copy protections

Again: This version is an "in between" step to fix latest issues not only with protections but also many other issues and installation-problems. We work hard to release soon next update!

You can visit this link to choose between two different servers for the download. They are both slow of course at the moment. In addition, for more information or just to discuss this important new release, you may wish to visit this thread in the Club CD Freaks Forums that Shoebedobedoo put up for this purpose!

First it is ad-ware, not spyware and second it IS OPTIONAL... you can UNCHECK the installation fo it during setup...

and third that stand even in this news and in the release notes of v4

Its really great that you take the time to read the article before taking the time to post such a great comment Wink In fairness I don't think anyone can bitch about them including adware in this release 1. They don't charge for the software 2. The installation of adware is optional In fairness people get a good deal in the end Smilie

No X64 support yet that's a bit stupid that's what people were waiting for? and just because its free doesn't mean I cant have my opinion on the stuff good or bad

..And no Anti-StarFarce (aka.. Starforce3) either built-in. Perhaps down the road. Nevertheless.. excellent and well anticipated release!!
By hardgiant, Tue 15 Nov 2005 23:03
A pretty weak release. They should have waited until they had a real release with IDE and x64 support. Might as well stay with 3.47Frown
By sorti, Wed 16 Nov 2005 06:30
sortiX64 support? Yah I sure hope they spend a LOT of time supporting something that will help out 6-700 people world wide who care about it. Who is running a 64 bit OS and requires this type of program?
By ghost_zero5, Wed 16 Nov 2005 07:06
Everybody who is running WinXP x64 would like to have it... you can gaming there too...
By ghost_zero5, Wed 16 Nov 2005 07:08
as you want... although it is not a weak release... code was completely rewritten... if you e.g. try newest ProtectCD-Version v3.47 will not work also not with programs like Anti-Blaxx a.s.o. but with DTv4 they will work... Of course you need to un-install all software that might be blacklisted, e.g. Alcohol 120% (otherweise ProtectCD will also not work from DTv4)...
By ghost_zero5, Wed 16 Nov 2005 07:13
And btw. mostly gamers use WinXP x64... We are not talking about server OS or something like that here...
By ghost_zero5, Wed 16 Nov 2005 07:15
Well.. if you want the best IDE-Support you can get you should even wait for DT Pro because that one will get an IDE-Virtual-Drive... As I even remeber the release-notes they said that next version will come soon... maybe that version will have at least something you wanted??

And btw. mostly gamers use WinXP x64... rofl good joke m8 Stick Out Tongue
By stopit33, Wed 16 Nov 2005 15:07
that true games do work better on x64, goldenfingaz upgrade your 486 and give it a go
By bytre, Wed 16 Nov 2005 18:23
I dual boot xp64 and xp32. Games are certainly faster in xp64.
By ghost_zero5, Wed 16 Nov 2005 21:11
That was no joke... think about it... only gamers and other persons who really need the performance of a 64Bit OS have a 64Bit OS currently installed... at least most...
By Greffel, Wed 16 Nov 2005 22:06
jepp..x64 roxx on games. And is faster on everything else to It.s really strange that there is no virtualdrive that works ...only fantom dvd
