Donate movies to U.S. troops...

A Blockbuster and USO joint promotion asks the public to support the American soldier with DVDs and video games. Through a press release the two companies announced their plans and what to do. Customers basically need to buy used or new movies or games at Blockbuster stores before they are sentd to Mobile USO units worldwide. There the American soldiers will enjoy your gifts.

Besides coming up with the idea Blockbuster announced they will match all donations up to 20,000 DVDs, meaning the U.S. troops will need a lot of spare time.  "Movies and games are popular with the troops because they provide a
break from intense daily realities and a way to fill downtime when away
from loved ones," said Larcine Bland, vice-president, community affairs,
Blockbuster Inc.

To provide the U.S. troops with even more Mobile USO units Blockbuster also plans to raise a total of $100,000 by selling American-flagged antennas. The total revenue from these sales will be given to USO, to "serve America's heroes", says the press release.

"We are excited to work with Blockbuster to continue to boost the
morale of our men and women in uniform and their families around the
world," said Edward A. Powell, USO president and CEO. "In advance, I want
to thank Blockbuster and its customers on the success of this campaign."

If this campaign will be a success is all in the hands of the American consumer...

DukeNukemWouldn't it be better if we sent them stuff that can stop bullets? I mean, how many GIs have been waxed already? [leaves to go check] Whoa -- 4,113 !!! Screw Edward Scissorhands. Give them clothing coated with some of that TDK shit they use for Blu-ray discs. I hear it's pretty hard. Just my two cents.

One single blockbuster retail store destroys (via massive hole punching machine) 1000 dvd and video-games each week that cannot be donated to troops or charity because legally it is an unfair advantage (walmart threatened to sue) Thus Blockbuster is charging consumers for donated dvds and matching consumer purchases up to 20000 of old dvds that would have been destroyed anyway... ?? seriously corporate greed! why not just donate all of the unwanted movies instead of charging customers to donate them
