Dutch police finds 5200 pirated copies in local music store

The police found 5200 illegal copies of CDs and DVDs in a local music store in the city of Delt. In a nearby store of the same owner the police also found nearly 160 other illegal copies and the 48 year old shop owner also kept nearly 1300 illegal DVDs in his house. The buildings were searched because the owner was suspected of large scale sales of illegal copies. Besides the CDs and DVDs, the police found nearly 400 illegal records (LP), 70 illegal tapes, six computers and the administration of the suspect.

The suspect had specialized himself in bootlegs, illegal recording of live concerts on CD and DVD. Of those the police found 1300 rare copies in two hidden containers underneath the store.

In the 90's the suspect was already busted twice for piracy. In the Netherlands he risks a 670.000 EURO fine and 4 years in jail. Besides that the man signed an agreement and is eligble to pay 3.000.000 EURO to a Dutch anti-piracy organisation.

bootlegs and piracy are two different things. Bootlegs of live concerts or out-takes, etc. is not the same as selling copied retail cds and dvds...

What's an "illegal record" ? How does one copy an LP ? or is this some contraband ?
