bytre used our news submit to tell us that survey company Forrester Research, have somehow been able to predict the winner of the Bluray battle. In a nutshell, they say in their report that Sony learned a lesson during the Betamax struggle and their strategy is to line up support in Hollywood. With the recent announcement of Paramount, who originally stated that they would only support HD-DVD, that they intend to release content in both formats, has Forrester thinking that Bluray is gaining ground. Interestingly, Warner, also a supporter of the HD-DVD format, when asked on their Bluray stance now, in the respect of whether they will follow Paramounts lead and release in both formats, say "no comment".
| LOS ANGELES, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Technology group Forrester Research on Wednesday declared Blu-Ray, a new DVD format backed by electronics makers led by Sony Corp as the winner in a heated battle over next-generation DVD technology. "Two groups are competing for control of high-definition DVD formats to be launched in the spring of 2006. After a long and tedious run up to launch, it is now clear to Forrester that the Sony-led Blu-Ray format will win," said Forrester Research analyst Ted Schadler in a report. |
Forrester may be right, but it still seems like quite a dynamic battle going on and only time will tell which side will come out on top. Around here, we sometimes think that until the smoke clears, we'll set tight with our DVD burners and forgo the agony of investing the "wrong" format. Others think that HD-DVD is great for movies and still others wish for a Blu-ray burner for their PC.

Then all those involved in the apparent disaster that is the release of any of the High Definition formats will learn a valuable lesson...don't f*** with consumers wallets!
