Free Beos - Standard supports CD burning
Beos has released their free Operating System (OS) today. More information can be found here. For CD Freaks visitors it may also be very intresting:

MP3 decoding is now built into the guts of BeOS 5 via the mp3 codec. Play MP3 files in MediaPlayer or any application using the BeOS translator kit (and if you purchase BeOS 5 Pro Edition, you'll have the first OS with mp3 encoding built-in).

The CDDA filesystem allows you to mount and read an audio CD as if it were a CD-ROM, which means tracks are now available as WAV files and can be read and manipulated by any BeOS application capable of handling WAV files. Save audio tracks as WAV files to your hard drive with a simple drag and drop.

Burn your own data and audio CDs with the included CDBurner application.
And it's all free !

there is small mistake in the info...like it says, the mp3 encoding is only for the pro version, and so is the cd burning. so if you want these features, you will have to pay $70.

Are u sure about that? I thought that cd-burning and mp3 decoding was free, and if you want mp3 encoding (i hope i don't mix up de- and encoding..) you have to buy the pro version.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think this is how it is

How big is it? I would go and look, but I'm on my school's computer, and my teacher is coming. It's strange - he's never really liked me much since I read out his e-mails 2 the class...

sorry all, i was wrong on that one... appearently, this is what it offers: The impressive array of software includes a text editor, CD burner, Web browser, email client, FTP client, zip utility, media player, games, and various other utilities.

And you can grab it from a working server here: http://hotfiles.zdnet.com/cgi-bin/texis/swlib/hotfiles/info.html?fcode=00172B
