HD DVD sales show small recovery...

After Warner's decision to go 'Blu', HD DVD sales were sinking. Latest intell shows a comeback of Toshiba's format. This recovery can mainly be found on the hardware level.

At the beginning of 2008 Blu-ray enjoyed a 90% market share, but current research by NDP show a decrease. HD DVD player sales totaled 33% of all high-definition hardware sales... NDP's research shows the first step forward by HD DVD since Warner decided to ditch Toshiba's format.

Low pricing is given as the main reason for HD DVD's 'comeback'. Players costing only a few bucks must be popular, but as we know HD DVD is known as a good product by the people. It would be nice if we see this trend continue and see HD DVD fight itself back...

Will this be a possibility?

Because of the price drop people are starting to buy these as upconverting DVD players. They are the best quality upconverters for the $ and for not much more $ than a regular "decent" upconverting DVD player. And as a bonus they play HD DVDs. The prices of the new release movies on HD DVD themselves need to drop to near DVD prices for the folks mentioned above to start buying HD DVDs in great enough numbers to show that its still a viable format.

The price drop looks more in my eyes as a try to get rid of the players. As they are quite useless. Always been.

Hypnosis4U2NV@SpeedyJDK; They are by far the best quality up-convertors for the price.. Cheaper than the OPPO up-convertors.. A Blu-Ray player with an older profile is more useless since it wont be able to play newer profile media.. You spam the threads with 'Blu-Ray is superior' rhetoric and have no information to back that statement.. The only edge that the format has over HD-DVD is in data capacity which is not by a huge margin and with nothing currently able to take advantage for all that room.. Video and audio is identical and only varies by the codec used to compile the disc with.. Did you know that factories need to upgrade their equipment to produce Blu-Ray discs because they are thinner than standard DVD's? HD-DVD are the same in size as the standard DVD's and require minimal change to the manufacturering equipment to produce.. Also, since the Blu-Ray discs are so thin, they require a special hard coating to be applied to protect all the layers of data from surface scratches which will affect the discs ability to be read.. Blu-Ray also uses a few more DRM features than HD-DVD does.. Lastly, they cant even get the final product right, making older standalone players with older profiles unable to play media that require the newer profiles.. All this adds to cost, aggravation and the consumer getting the short end of the stick.. 'Superior' my ass.. Read the real reason why Warner switched to Blu-Ray.. What a suprise, Sony bought their loyalty, just like other studios.. http://gizmodo.com/344680/the-real-reason-warner-went-blu+ray

Warner make me sick - what a pack of sellouts. I hope they rot in hell with their Sony "Deal".

SciFerHD-DVD camp is just trying to dump their hardware before they are stuck with. And if they were to have a fighting chance then they need to give it away in order for people to buy into. The bad thing is that if people buy into this it will be bad for the consumer because they will not have a wide variety of title selections that blu-ray has. Just makes it more confusing and frustrating to the consumer.
