HDD-based HD media player from MvixUSA

After launching a few hi-def media decoders, MvixUSA believes we are ready for a portable version. The Mvix MV-2500U supports a small 2.5-inch hard drive that should allow most of its predecessor's features. According to the company's press release this HDD-based HD Media player supports HDDs as large as a 250GB hard disk, which is enough to carry about a hundred DVD movies.

MvixUSA's media player is considered to be as portable as a PDA, due to its compact size of 5x3x0.5 inches. "MvixMV-2500U is the perfect companion for the people on the move. People, who enjoy travelling on RVs or boats, can virtually carry their entire home theatre collection in this tiny marvel, and enjoy the same hi-def video quality," said Mike Mallon, Business Development Manager at MvixUSA.

Mallon believes that the media player's compact size and competitive price should make us a happy bunch. "Extremely competitively priced, this black beauty fits everyone's pocket, both in terms of size and dollars." With this said, you would expect some information about the product's price, but its release continued with technical specs.

The MV-2500U works exactly like an external USB 2.0 hard drive, when connected to a PC. It is capable of hours of standard and high definition recording in a dozen file formats, which should be a reason to buy MvixUSA's newest product. The player will cost you $149 and if needed Mvix can offer you a 80GB, 160GB or 250GB HDD.

Who wants to watch movies on their PC?
MViX has never been one of my favorite brands due to lack of updates on their media players (slightly improved these days) but also press releases must be taken with a lot of salt. This devices will not run your average HD files as they would on the 780 it is compared to and the price is likely to be for the bare bone only.

If you want proper playback these days, all DVD iso backups, HD files (vc1 and MKV) needs to be supported while this unit will most likely run on a cheaper set (is it even Sigma?) capable of only SD...

I'd be very surprised if it is any different. It's a cool device but still belongs in the 1st gen range and not the third gen like the 780 or 2nd gen like the 760 as in the release...

Video file formats supported include files encoded in MPEG-1, MPEG-2, and MPEG-4, DVD (VOB, IFO), DivX ® (3/4/5/6), Xvid, BivX ®, VCD (DAT) for both PAL and NTSC systems.

That's only SD support...
HD started with second gen and third gen included VC1 and MKV HD files.

In a rush been incomplete...
The reference to 720p and 1080i is for output resolution and not for supporting HD files. Mind the "gap"... Mind the "gap"

Still waiting for the first portable true HD player...
This is not it...
Feel silly talking to myself, but we decided to run our own story on this now too after finding out the MV-2500U exists already since 2.5 years. It's the same case, the same functions as the product they initially launched before the 760 and 780. Not sure it's the same but it sure looks like they are relaunching an old product as new...?

Hope it's just an error in the release where it maybe should be 3500u?

Enjoy
Hi-Jack
