I have owned the Helios H4000 for several months now and I have mixed reactions to it. The unit has numerous bugs that I am told by Neodigits should be remedied in the first firmware update that is supposed to be released some time in Feb. 2007.
1) While upscaling some dvds, there is a refracted vertical strip that runs the length of the left side of the screen.
2) When reversing a dvd during playback and then trying to go back into play mode, multiple presses of the play button are required to get the unit out of reverse mode. This also happens with fast forward occaisionaly.
3) When playing a burned cd, the player goes into a screensaver mode and when it does, there is a loud pop followed by a distorted, pixelated mess that fades in and out.
4) The issue with having to disable the subtitles every time you play a retail dvd is annoying as well.
Overal however I am very satisfied with both the HDMI and component outputs images in 1080i mode. Everyone I have showed Sin City to says they have never seen a dvd image look so crisp. We all agree that the added resolution makes your dvd's that you are probably used to viewing in 480p look far more 3D and sharper with excellent color depth, deep black levels and little to no artifacting depending on the quality of the dvd you are playing. As long as Neodigits fixes the issues this player has via a firmware upgrade, I will be a very satisfied customer. Also, I purchased this unti from Compuplus.com for $148.
