HP sold infected USB sticks

The USB drives that HP sells for its Proliant-servers seem to be infected with malware. Recent news makes us believe that the worms were already added to the sticks in the factory. The two worms are better known as W32.Fakerecy and W32.SillyFDC, according to John Bambenek of the Sans Internet Storm Center their presence shows that we can speak of a coordinated attack.

Both the 256MB as well as the 1GB versions of HP's USB Floppy Drive Keys could be infected. Earlier, developer Checkpoint was attacked with infected USB drives too. After you've inserted the infected drive into a server the worm will spread immediately. We know that every up-to-date virus scanner recognises the worm right away, which means that the chance for infection is lower.

HP didn't say anything about how many infected USB drives were sold and how they are geographically spread.

I guess it's not even really HP's fault as they probably just buy this stuff in bulk from China or so! Anyone here that suffered from this? Stick Out Tongue

If anyone has a pile of these infected keys they need to get rid of just give them to a Mac or Linux user. supergrin
