Hilary Rosen to step down as RIAA CEO/chairman

A bit of off topic news to start the day.. Thanks to CatPuke, acdc007, and mendoman for their tips, we know that according to Billboard.com Hilary Rosen has decided to step down as chairman/CEO of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) at the end of this year:


"I have young children, and I want to devote more of my time to them," she says in a statement. "This has been an extremely difficult decision, but I know it is the right one for my family." Rosen joined the Washington, D.C.-based trade group 17 years ago and was named to her current post in 1998.

The RIAA board will conduct a formal search for a replacement over the next several months. RIAA president Cary Sherman will remain in his current position and is expected to serve on the search committee.


The name 'Hilary Rosen' is probably a well known one if you've followed the news on piracy lately. Rosen was often involved in legal actions against various pirates, such as the 'KaZaA pirate' we reported about yesterday.

Man, I couldn't have hoped for better news today! The only thing that worries me is if we get another idiot in there worse than she was. I'm sure that's what will happen, but for the time being, this is great news. GOOD RIDDANCE! Smilie

ploegercrMy theory si not like The bitch is dead dead dead. I call not her a bitch but the RIAA. In my opinion she speaks for the RIAA and it's the same like Bush. He also has to say what's written for him Frown. And i think that in most cases the one that comes after the first is much worse... So be aware it's not yet! It's allways 2 steps ahead, one step backwards, 2 steps ahead ...etc!

If you had read the Wired interview/biography on Rosen in the January (or is it Feb) of Wired you would know that Rosen is just a front-woman for the recording dinustry, the real ideas come from the CEOs (and their team) of various record labels. Why would they want to take the backlash when so many of you un-educated music pirates would just look at Rosen and not think who the real dictator of anti-MP3 efforts was.

Hilary Rosen is a person that deserves to rot in hell. This is so because she was involved in the action against the Kazaa file swapper we reported about yesterday. I don't like to use the word pirate when it comes to file swappers of copyrighted works. It's good that she would step down because she is such a bitch. It hurts the RIAA to lose a leader like her. This makes me happy. I wish the worst of luck to her and her family.
